1st Trimester

Numbness and tingling in my hands

Hi, so I have a question  I hope somebody has an answer too.

I  woke up from a small nap on my couch this afternoon and one of my hands was kind of numb, at first I thought it was just cuz i slept on it funny, but then it started in my other hand too. For a while both hands were tingly and a tad numb, now its back to just the one hand but it wont go away and im kind of worried. I'm about 2 days shy of being 2 months along if that makes any difference. I haven't been to my first appointment yet so I dont really have a doctor i can call about things yet so any and all advice and ideas would be appreciated. Thanks a ton

Re: Numbness and tingling in my hands

  • I've had this twice since being pregnant in my right hand/arm. I looked it up and apparently it's normal in pregnancy, though less common in general. There were a few different reasons that I read about for why it happens, though I don't recall the specifics. Anyhow, you're not alone!

  • well at the very least its good to know its not just me, thank you. And I read in a couple places about pregnancy induced carpal tunnel, but I don't know why it would set in so quickly and suddenly. Idk maybe, but thanx again for the info.

  • I had this with my first pregnancy - although I definitely don't think it happened in my first trimester - but it was really bad by the end, and took a couple months for everything to go back to normal.  I'd ask about it at your first appointment.

  • That sounds like carpal tunnel. I have experienced the feeling in the past when I was typing too much. The worst is waking up and not feeling your hands at all!

Although I am early in my pregnancy, I have read that pregnant women do experience carpal tunnel. You might want to attempt wrist swirl exercises if you feel it coming on.

    Good luck, Dani!
