DH was big into picking a strong boy name for DS #1. Now he likes Mason for #2. His doesn't want a boy name that could turn into a girl name (because this happened to him) Do you ever see Mason turning into a girl name?
I should add I like the name and don't think its a girl name... but you never know with people....
Couldn't you just see a Mayson showing up!!
I could, but not because I think it is even remotely feminine, but because people are giving little girls masculine names all the time now. Ryan, Elliott, Michael, Kamdyn (yes, spelled that way) are all names of little girls I know or have met recently, and none of them are feminine AT ALL. I actually just heard of a little girl named Bennett being born, I mean, how is BEN a girls name at all?! Crazy.
I have a very close friend that named her daughter Macyn (of course pronounced like Mason). They specifically wanted a boy's name for their daughter. IMHO, it is a boy's name and is masculine...I don't see anything feminine about it. To that point, there are people that name their daughters Ryan and Michael, and those names will never be girl names. I think Mason is a name that can't become unisex, like Avery, just for an example.
Mason was the second most popular boy's name in 2011, so I think it's fair to say it's a boy's name. That doesn't mean there won't be a few complete idiots who name their daughters a variation of it (likely Maysen), but it won't be your son who is given the side-eye.

Bennett for a girl is a total GP of mine. I could never do it IRL, but I just think it would be so cute on a little girl.
It looks like it already is. The spelling has been changed to make it it's own and be original into Macyn, Maesyn, Maesen, Mysen, Maisyn, Macen, Maceyn and all the 101 ways you can spell the name Mason. I'm hoping it's not the case but, I've already met 3. All girls. It's a Bummer.
It's a boy's name (and I realize it's technically unisex). If people want to pick it for their daughter, go for it, but it's a boy's name to me ::points to siggy::

Nothing is safe. I have seen Macyn embroidered on things.
I can empathize. When I was pregnant with my son, a very sweet female student I worked with was named Connor. It didn't ruin the name for me, but it was annoying to see my very boyish boy name on a sweet girl.

IMO, no boy names are safe anymore. In a country where many traditionally masculine names cracked the top 500 of the SSA girl's list, there's no telling. Ie: Avery, Bailey, Riley, Peyton, Harley. Jessica Simpson just named her daughterMaxwell... You can bet that one's going to start trending.
Oh, I thought you were going to say you want to name a girl Mason.
I think there will be people who use it for a girl, and there will be people who change the spelling to Masyn to make it feminine, but that does not make it a girl name. Mason is and should be - and I believe will stay - a boy name.

Totally agree! Mason is a boy's name though. And all the original, Kelly, Casey, Logan, Jamie, Brooklyn, Kim, Leigh, Parker, Leslie, Spencer, Ashley, Hayden, heck, what name out there isn't a boy's name these days except for the obvious Emma, Violet, etc... Haha. Like the other day a heard a mom call her daughter's name Brantley... I'm pretty sure she was a girl, long hair & wearing a dress, and someone I know named her daughter Koltann aka Colton, YES, Koltann.
Did some of you not read the OP? She doesn't want to name her daughter Mason. It seems like most people understood, but some didn't. The title threw me off, but the actual post clearly states the name would be for a boy.
Unfortunately, it seems like the name has already been used for girls. It's ridiculous, but people will continue to be ridiculous and choose awful names.
I have a friend with a little girl named Mason but I wouldn't say that it is a popular girl's name. Most people find the "son" endings of names to be more masculine. But like other poster's have said ... no names are safe now!

Psh, y'all must've missed my swap spot post. My freaking MIL bought this shirt that had "maysen" embroidered on it bc she thought it was a logo?? WTF. Yeah...someone named their girl that, it had pink and crowns on it lol.
BUT I dont' think your son would necessarily be in a class w/ a girl named Mason, just think it might happen more.

Isn't Mason the name of Fraiser's daughter?
Just looked it up. Mason Olivia, born in 2001. (Kelsey Grammer is who I meant.)
So....yes. I could see it happening.
I guess everyone forgot about the gal from yesterday who wanted to name her daughter Maesonn.
However
OP, I really wouldn't worry about it. It's through and through a boy's name (with the correct spelling), and 99% see it that way.
Nono, she wanted Maesonn for her son, bc her brother was Maesonn dontcha know?!
People may use it for girl, but I do not see it becoming gender neutral anytime soon. I think it's a safe choice.

It is a boy name but that's not to say that someone won't name their daughter that. Especially with nn potential of Macy.
Why are girls being named Emerson? You never know.
