When to stop wearing baby?

I still wear DS for various things- dog park, housework, etc. But I'm not sure when it starts to become an issue with my belly. When did you ladies stop wearing your babies? I'm showing a little, but it's mainly bloat and right now the carrier fits fine.

Re: When to stop wearing baby?

  • It might depend on how big LO is and how comfortable you are. I stopped wearing DS about a month ago but he is 17 months old and nearing 30 pounds so a little different scenario. He is also more interested in walking so that made it easier to stop wearing him. I say as long as you are comfortable you can wear LO for awhile.

  • Stop when it becomes uncomfortable.  I was able to wear DD on my back until I was 30 weeks.  I used a woven wrap and my Ergo throughout my pregnancy.

  • Right now DS is about 25lbs, so it's not comfortable for too long, but it's good exercise.

It's a Britax carrier and it front only, but distributes a lot of the weight to my hip area. I didn't know if it would be an issue down the road with my PG belly and extra weight/pressure on it.

  • About 15wks I had to stop using my ergo with ds2. It just became to much.

  • I wore DD1 on my back up until 33ish weeks.  I don't think I used a front carry after I found out that I was pregnant.

  • The last time I did it was 8 months.

I think this will vary on your size/carrier/comfort level. There's no time you really have to stop.

A friend of mine is due in 2 weeks and is still wearing her 16 month old in a mei tai every day. She's not very comfortable with getting him on her back so she wears him in the front and said he kinda sits on her belly. She's a small girl too and not having troubles with it, though she can't do it for really long stretches of time.

  • My midwife said to stop when I got uncomfortable with it.  I think around four months I did because it wasn't working for either of us anymore.

  • I'm still wearing DS everyday for various amounts of time. Usually he's in a ring sling or a kinderpack, but the kinderpack has to be really low under my belly & DS has to be on my back. The RS is easy because he kind of straddles my bump with one leg so its not uncomfortable. Its pretty painful to wear him in the front, & has been that way since about 6-8w. I'm smaller though & wore him just as much pre-pregnancy so maybe my body's just conditioned for it.
