photo book size (ugh, I rambled...)

Every year I put all of our favorite photos and memories into a hardcover photo book that I order off of mixbook. I work on it all year and they are basically a way for us to look back on that year and stand in substitute for a photo album.Last year I did a big 12X12 hardcover book since it was his baby book. This year ended up really long  it is going to be a little over $100 for a 12X12. When we have this baby I will be making two separate ones every year. One geared toward DS and one toward LO#2.

I am considering ordering the 8.5X8.5 instead. It will still be a hard back but cut the cost by over $50! Honestly I feel weird spending $100 on a photobook but these really are important to me because they have everything in them and I know one day my son willl want to hear those stories and see those pictures. Also I love looking back on them and so do friends and family when they come over. One day his wife may to! I mean I have photos saved on the hard drive but I don't see me pulling that out like I do a photobook.

The 8.5X8.5 are still really nice but I'm afraid they will be to small and since most pages have multiple photos, graphics, and little words of typed out stories they may be harder to see. But then again maybe they look bigger in person. anyways I'm rambling...has anyone ordered that size (or both) and compared them side by side. Which would you do?

  • Is there a 10x10 option? I usually get mine from Shutterfly and have never felt the need for more than 10x10. I made a little one recently about a trip to the zoo and got the 5x7 I think and it worked fine for that purpose (multiple pictures per page but few words). So 8.5x8.5 might work, but 10x10 would be better.

    No 10X10 option :( Just 12X12 and 8.5X8.5

I may use a different website this year. I like how you can REALLY customize mixbook but they don't have a bunch of size options or coupons and such like places like Shutterfly. But for this book I am stuck with mixbook since it is already done and it took me all year to make.

If you are thinking of switching websites next year anyway then why not just do another 12 x 12 book to match the one you already have.  Who knows, once your next LO arrives you may find that you only want to do one family book per year aynway.

    I agree :)

Check out Blurb in the future. It was recommended to me by a pro photographer and I've been using them ever since. It's really great quality photos and books, and you can completely customize every part of it (IMO, nicer than both mypublisher and shutterfly, which are the only other 2 I've liked. I've also tried snapfish but that was horrible quality). And they are priced much better than anything I've looked into. I typically get an 11x13 book (large landscape) and have around 100 pages and pay around $100.

Anyway, I did first year albums for each girl and then I put it all in a yearly family photobook. I also plan on eventually making smaller ones for each girl with my favorite pictures from each year, and having it be like NB-18 or something (we'll see when the time comes ;)

Thanks for the recommendation! I am going to check that out!
