Two Under 2

do we want to do this?

I have been lurking since DS was about 8 weeks old.  I start back to to work on Tuesday and DH and I have been discussing TTC at the end of the summer for LO # 2 once we have a routine for a few months. DS will be in in home day care witha sitter referred to us from a friend.

I know from reading all your posts that it is challenging but totally doable.  I am nervous as I am currently on Zoloft for PPA/PPD after my first, however with therapy am starting to process my feelings, surprisingly not associated with my son, but with my relationship with my mother.  I am feeling so much better and now recognize where my anxiety stemmed from.

Any mom's dealing with PPA/PPD and have 2 under 2?  Any advice or tips would be appreciated!

I was never officially diagnosed, but I'm pretty sure I had PPD after DS1.  DS2 was a surprise and it really rocked my world in a bad way.  I went back to my shrink for a month or so and I started feeling better.  I was never put on meds though.  With 2U1, the first two years were a total blur and I started feeling myself after my youngest turned one.  I really don't have any advice or tips except get help if you feel you need it.  FWIW, I didn't get PPD the second time.

  • Yes I had PPA.  I had anxiety before though and years of working on it.  Therefore, I went off my meds and I did pretty well during the second pregnancy.  However, right when I gave birth I went right back on meds.  My anxiety is pretty severe....and I am still dealing with it.  Just be aware yes it is doable, but depending on your particular situation it can be quite stressful.  That does not mean that you shouldn't do it.  You just have to realize that it can peak the anxiety quite a bit, but it may not.  There is never a perfect time, and if you are ready and your dr. gives you the go ahead then it will be fine and work out.  It is not easy.

My anxiety is coupled with obsessive worrying so it isn't easy but I am doing fine.

  • I'm sure I had untreated ppd after ds, but I got pg around 12 weeks pp so I just wrote a lot of it off as hormones. It was extremely hard once dd came and the ppd was unmistakeable. I am on Zoloft and its like night and day. It's hard but I'm actually enjoying everything now. I would do it again in a heartbeat! ...just would have gotten on zoloft sooner!!

  • I was diagnosed with PPD/PPA after DS2 was born. I think I probably had it after DS1 was born, but like the pp I blamed it on hormones since I got pregnant so quickly after DS1's birth. I stopped breastfeeding in order to take a combination of Wellbutrin & Ativan. (Zoloft didn't work for me.) As long as I take my meds, it's totally manageable. Yes, 2u2 is tough (mine were almost 2u1) but I wouldn't have it any other way now that DS2 is here. I absolutely LOVE having my boys so close together.
