Middle name for baby Preston

I would like to name our son Preston Beauregard (our last name is Creel), because Beauregard (Beau) is my favorite boy name, and I'm pretty sure my husband can't be talked into any more babies, so I would really like to use the name while I can.  I think I would regret it if I never got to use it.  But, some say it's too much of a name.  What are your opinions on this?  In my opinion, we don't often (esp as children) write out our full names, other than using our middle initials, so I don't see why it would be a huge deal.  But, I wanted to get some more opinions!  Ultimately, we will name him what we like in the end, but I thought I'd ask for opinions and also see if you had any other middle name suggestions.  Thanks!

Re: Middle name for baby Preston

  • I think middle names are an excellent place for meaning, family names, and whimsy.

If you think you'd regret never using this name, go for it.

  • Personally I Love the name Beau..  but I think pairing it with Preston makes it sound a bit pretentious though sorry.  I am just not that big a fan of Preston though so maybe that's why

  • Why not just Preston Beau?  My cousin's name is Preston Reed LN.  I have always loved his name. Preston was his mom's maiden name and Reed is our grandmother's maiden name (hence where my Reed is named from).
  •  I'm in the same situation as you! This is most likely our last baby and I've always loved the name Belle I can't talk my husband into using it as a FN but he agreed a MN is fine so I want to use it while I can. It doesn't flow as perfect as I would like it to with the FN we chose but I'm still using it, it may be my last chance!

  • I like Preston Beauregard (I probably misspelled that)! I think it's cute and preppy, and maybe a little pretentious, but Preston Beau is a good alternative if you want to kind of cut that.

Also, based on your sig pic, your husband is hilarious :)

  • My youngest son's name is Preston.  His middle name is Anthony.  I wanted to give him the middle name James, BUT I also wanted DH to have the honor of naming him.  I have uncles with both of those names (James and Anthony), so either way, the middle name honors a family member!  I think with a 1 syllable last name, you can give him a longer middle name and it will sound fine.  Our last name is also 1 syllable and Anthony works well with it.  I had originally thought a 3 syllable middle name would be too much, as well, but it's not.  Good luck!

  • Go for it! Like you said, this might be your only chance and who really uses the mn that often anyway?

  • I think that middle names are definitely about sentiment and family meaning!

  • I think it's fine for a middle name. He won't have to write it out too often. That said, I think Preston Beau is also a good option if you want to keep it shorter.
