Driving after c section

How long did you wait before you drove after your c section? Mine was May 28th it's driving me crazy to reply on my husband!

Re: Driving after c section

  • My doctor said I could drive to my 2 week PP appointment with my last 2 c-sections - but nothing before that.  Hang in there!

  • I started driving a couple of days before my 2 week appt. Just be sure you're no longer taking any narcotic pain meds.

I wasn't given any instructions on when I could drive, but since I wasn't taking narcotics, I felt comfortable in about a week post op.

  • My doc told me that as long as I was not takin narcotics and I felt like I could stomp on the brake hard if I needed to, I was fine to drive. I drove at one week pp this time.
  • The first time I drove was about a week and a half out, but not with kids in the car - I just drove over to Target for formula.  The first time I drove with the baby was to DD's 2 week check up.  My OB said I could drive as soon as I was off the prescription pain relievers.

  • 12 days after #1 (had to drive myself to the doctor), two weeks after #2.

  • I took myself to the grocery store the day after I got home from the hospital. My dr told me 2 weeks, I told her I don't follow rules... she just laughed, she knows I'm a terrible patient. I didn't take any narcotics once I left hospital, and I felt fine, not much pain.

  • My discharge instructions specifically stated 2 weeks to give time for the anesthesia to wear off.  Of course I felt fine way before then, but I did wait the full two weeks.  God forbid I had been in an accident and they'd found out I'd just had major surgery, I wouldn't have wanted to get myself into all that extra trouble, you know?

  • Mine said as long as I wasn't on my pain meds! Which I wasn't! I drove two days after I left hospital! I felt good!
  • My doc said 2 weeks.  I waited 1.

  • 2 weeks. I was terrified of getting an infection, so I followed my doctor's recommendations to a T.

  • My OB is largely leaving it up to me and how I feel.  He told me to be sure I felt like I could safely hit the brake pedal and do what I needed to do in an emergency situation before I start driving.  DD1's daycare is about a 3 minute from our house on neighborhood roads, so I will see how I feel and probably pick her up a few times before trying a bigger drive.

  • my dr. wanted me to not only be off the pain meds but be able to stomp on the brakes if i needed to. i definitely didn't think i could do that just a few days after surgery. i think the first time i drove anywhere was at about 2.5 weeks. i also did a practice run down my street stomping on the brakes just to be sure.
