Okay, I feel silly even asking this, but here goes...
About two weeks ago, I bought a jar of pickles from the refrigerated section of a grocery store (Shop RIte). I chose them specifically because they'd have fewer preservatives, but when I got home, I forgot where I'd gotten them from and since they were unopened, I stuck them in my pantry. From there, I forgot about them until today.
You can probably guess where this is going. I opened the jar just now (about 15-20 minutes ago) and ate about half a pickle before remembering that I probably should have refrigerated them. THe pickle didn't taste bad, but i checked on the jar and sure enough the label said "Always Refrigerate."
I tossed the jar, but I'm just hoping that that half of a pickle won't have any negative effect on the baby. I actually called the store to ask, but it's too late in the evening so no one there has any info on this. They said I could call back tomorrow morning and probably get more answers, but I'd really like some help on this now.
Re: Worried about something I ate...
I ate moldy bread today, so I hear you! Hopefully it won't make you sick.
I haven't felt anything from the spoiled bread yet...
Throwing out the rest of the jar after you realized your mistake was a smart move, but pickling IS a form of preservation, so they were probably fine. I wouldn't worry

Oh you will be dandy, much worse can happen! Now I want a pickle
I ate moldy turkey pepperoni by accident tonight.
WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE.
I kid, I kid.
I ate moldy bread today too. I cannot believe it took me half a slice to figure out it was bad!
Yeah, same here...the kicker is, I didn't notice it--my husband did! lol
Omg -the 'rotten chunky milk' part made me dry heave!
Unless they were pickled in meth, you're fine.
And if you're not, you will become best friends with the nearest toilet.
I have those same pickles at home. I'm sure you're fine, but you may consider calling the manufacturer for more info.
If it makes you feel any better, several weeks ago I bought an Amy's frozen dinner and took it to work the following day to eat it. When I was about 1/2 way finished eating, I picked up the box and started reading it and saw that it had expired a YEAR ago. Keep in mind, those expiration dates are pretty generous, so who knows when the thing was made? I panicked, called Amy's, and they reassured me that it was fine, probably just a little stale (they also sent me a ton of coupons, and had the store investigated). I called my doctor and she laughed (but sympathized, too). Everything turned out ok.
