Cloth Diapering

Stiff line dried diapers

So, I will admit that we rarely line dry. We use mostly cotton prefolds and fitteds. Anyway, I wanted to sun out some stains the other day so I hung the whole lot on the line. They are stiff and scratchy now. I ran them through the "quick" cycle (15 min) on the dryer in hopes of tumbling them soft and no luck. Ideas?

  • I find the quick fluff in the dryer only works with dryer balls.

  • So maybe throw a tennis ball in there? I don't own dryer balls, but maybe I could invest in some and line dry this summer...

  • I wouldn't use a tennis ball. When the rubber gets hot it will stink. If you don't have wool balls you can get the plastic ones at most grocery stores or even toys r us in the section where the dreft is.
  • Toss a wet wash cloth or something similar in with them in the dryer.  The moisture/heat will refluff your dipes.  I live in a super dry climate (Phoenix) and this helps me, especially since I line dry most of the time.

This. Definitely add a little moisture somehow.

  • I've actually found that putting them in the dryer for 15-20 min BEFORE putting them out on the line helps them from getting super crunchy and stiff.

either that or take them down off the line when they're still slightly damp and finish up in the dryer.
