Floating the river?

The Texas girls may know what I'm talking about but I really want to go float the river in San Marcos this summer with friends.  Floating the river here is just sitting in a single person tube and floating down the river.  It seems harmless to me but what do y'all think?

For the Texas gals, I'm talking about the Comal River not the Guadalupe.

  • I don't see why not.

  • We do that all the time up in Wisconsin! A bunch of us are going this weekend as it will be 90 degrees. You should probably check with your nurse/OB just to make sure, but I think as long as you shower off when you're done and wear sunscreen, it would be no different then going in the pool.

  • The only down side I would see to this activity is a sun burn. Sounds perfectly fine to me, just keep hydrated! You could totally buy one of those floating coolers you attach to your tube and pack it with bottled water! And Snacks!
  • I looooove floating comal.  Being pregnant, my concern would be the heat, though.  In ATX is already 98-99 degrees.  I don't think I would want to be that hot (Even though i'm in a tube) with all that sun exposure.  Also, those bus rides to the drop off site were miserable not pregnant last summer.

I guess in the grand scheme of things...  if you're careful about water intake and protecting your skin - I don't see why it would be a problem.

What are of tx do you live in?

Ya I enjoy getting a little color though..haha. For some reason, the one thing I'm craving lately is getting in the water!  We're going Schlitterbahn and the beach in Galveston in July.  We live in College Station.

I am going at least twice this year already... I see no reason not too... just make sure you have plenty of water. I am making sure I go on calmer parts of the river as well!

I got a groupon a week or two ago for half off tube rental...woohoo!

  • Sunscreen, ball cap, plenty of water and you're good to go!! We've been to the lake this year and I swam- you should be just fine!

  • Go for it. Unless your doctor doesn't want you out in the sun (Which we all need a little of!) I would say this would be a great thing to do with your man. Think of it as part of your Babymoon. Can't go floatin' a lot after the baby comes, unless you get a babysitter for a long while.

  • I would go, just be mindful of keeping cool and wear a lot of sunscreen!
  • Unless the college kids have started firing something other than marshmallows out of the super soakers, you should be fine...

  • Oh my! I live in CO & I know that rafting this summer is out. Can I come float with you to get my fix? (In other words, I think it sounds fine)

I don't see why the Comal should be a problem...even the Guadalupe has an area where you can get out and walk around the rapid-water part. My DH was talking about that the other night, since my parents live in a near-by town we could go visit and float..

Ask your OB and if she clears it GO!! Load up on sunscreen, and go beat this Texas heat!! :-)
