My Italian family tree is loaded with Josephs and Giuseppes (my brother's mn, dad's mn, gpa's mn, two ggpas' names, etc.). I love Josephine, but my grandmother's horrible sister is Josephine and it would really hurt her feelings if I named a daughter Josephine (gma's no peach either, so I'm not sure how much I care).
What do you think of Giuseppa or Giuseppina? One of the Giuseppinas in my family was called Pippinella, and I think Giuseppa nn Pippa might be cute.
Thoughts? Put it on the list or cut it loose?
All opinions welcome ? it's a slow day at work.

I have to agree that I love the nickname Pippa for a Giuseppa...my family is not Italian, and this name is definitely not my own style, but I love a family naming tradition, and think it's really sweet!
Giuseppina is a whole lotta name imo. Is your last name Italian? I feel like you need an Italian last name to pull it off.
That said, I think Giuseppa is pretty cute. Three syllables instead of four makes it seem more usable to me.
This.
This is a new name to me. But I can't say I dislike it. I agree Pippa is a cute nn.
It's important to me to honor my family and my heritage and Pippa as a full name doesn't do that. DD has an Italian-sounding first name w/ an English nn, which is amenable to both my family and DH's, and I'd like to find something symmetrical for #2.
Also, I think Pippa's adorable, but juvenile. I prefer formal names w/ nns.

I have to say that Giuseppa/Giuseppina and Josephina are not very feminine names (to me anyway). I much prefer Giuliana, Isabella, etc. as they sound more feminine and not just like a guy's name with "ina" or "ippa" thrown on the end.
For that same reason, not a big fan of Edwardeisha, Darneisha, and all of those sorts of girl names that are named after the father.

My husband's family is Italian and it is loaded with Italian names as well. Love Pippa as a nn but I think Giuseppa/Giuseppina are just too difficult. Honestly even after 5 years, there are some relatives that I still cannot pronounce their names. I feel so awkward about this that I just avoid talking to them altogether.

Giuseppina - Don't like.
Giuseppa - I actually kind of like. NMS, but it's quirky and cute. And I think Pippa as a nn is cute, too.
I giuseppina better than giuseppa
im italian so to me it is not an unusual name...
i do not like pippa though.
We threw this one around since DH is Joseph but we were naming DD after his grandma Josephine.
In the end we decided it was a little "too paisan" (my DH's words) so we went with Josephine.
If I had to pick I'd do Giuseppina. I would go for Josephine in the MN spot if you're not sold on it as a FN.
