Babywearing and c-section?

Have any babywearing mamas out there had a c-section before?  I had a rough delivery with my first LO since we dealt with shoulder dystocia and my doctor is keeping an eye on things this time around.  We are watching measurements and growth carefully and will make a decision around 37 weeks, but it is likely that we may go with a c-section this time.  I have worn DD since she was born without any trouble and I am concerned now that I may not be able to wear the new squish when he or she arrives.  I already had a wrap and ring sling in mind to take with me and now I am bummed thinking that I may have to wait before we enjoy our snuggles together.  Does anyone know if it is possible to wear a newborn right away after this procedure, or if not...approximately how long would I need to wait?  Thanks!

  • I wore LO in a moby as soon as I got home. The extra wrapping around my incision actually felt really good- a little extra support. I would just make sure the knot isn't resting on your incision. And newborns don't weigh much, so it wasn't like carrying around a heavy kid.

    Good luck!

  • I only have a Beco Gemini, so I waited until 3-4 weeks pp before using it.  My DS(2) was too small before then and I wanted to give my incision some time to heal.  If I'd had a Moby, I may have tried that, I guess.
  • I had a c-section and wore by baby out of the hospital in a Moby. No problems, most wraps and ring slings don't go anywhere near where your scar is.

I used my Ergo about 2 weeks after I had him, again no issues. They are so tiny at that age it's not really a problem.

  • I think it will depend on your pain level. I was still in a lot of pain when I got home and using my abs, even just to sit up, hurt. Baby wearing does add extra weight for your abs to carry so I hand carried her, using mostly my arm strength, for the first few weeks. About a month PP, I gave the sling & structured carrier a try.

  • I had a c/s and started DS in a ring sling as soon as I got out of the hospital. He was 5 lb 2 oz then and loved the sling. It's a lot easier on your incision to carry them around that way then with a heavy car seat, but for whatever reason my son just hates the sling now. So back to hauling the car seat around.
