Can you tell me about Elfster?

I have always loved this idea but have always been a bit leary about giving out an address.  Can you ease my mind a little and tell me how this system works? Thank you! I would really love to participate in RosieP's summer Elfster but need that last little nudge.  Also I like the idea of the summer theme, as I mentioned yesterday, but think it's a great idea to include a local item or "goodie" as well!

On the Elfster website you can put your address in and its only seen by the person who draws your name. So you're info is pretty secure

All i can tell you is my family used it for my secret santa exchange last year and it worked great. You only see the info of the person you draw and whatever anyone else puts on the "wall" (kind of like facebook).

If you're not comfortable with giving your address, perhaps you could link to an amazon wishlist. As I understand it, it works like a wedding registry and someone can buy something on your wishlist and have it shipped to you with your address kept private.

I don't know if this helps or not, but I have given my address (for various reasons) to at least a dozen girls on this board without harm.  In the Elfster, only one person gets your address as well, so that helps.  Most people are good people, if you KWIM.  I definitely understand your fear, though.  It's unfortunate that a few jerks make us wonder about everyone.

For the Mother's Day card exchange, we made our addresses visible to everyone so I put my work address, not because I don't trust the girls I feel like I "know" on here, but I still don't know everyone so it's better to be safe. It only takes one jerk to ruin it. It's absolutely nothing personal against anyone, but I'll probably just use my work address again since that's usually where I have packages shipped anyway. That said, since this is a one-on-one exchange and the addresses are only shared with the person you're exchanging with, it seems like it'll be about as secure as it can get.

I say, do it! Each card I received was so special and it was so worth it. All of you girls are pretty fantastic!
