Constipation Pain

Does anyone else have bad constipation pain, specifically on the right side right around the hip bone? I went the hospital a month ago worried it was appendicitis, but they said it was just constipation pain.  It went away, but is back now and really painful at times.  I figured probably my diet, so working on getting nutrition back on track.

 I do go every morning, but it seems that it's not enough.  I have bought some prune juice and adding flaxseed to the cereal.  Has anyone else tried something different to help? I am prefer not to take medicine and try naturally with food choices.  Thanks!

  • YES! Mine was from taking Zofran, so as soon as I stopped that, it got better. Honestly...if you've tried all the food things, you should take a stool softener, like colace. It's not good to let constipation just go on. You can also try caster or mineral oil, I have heard of that, and try warming up the prune juice (gag, I know) and taking a cup of that at night and in the morning. Hopefully those will make it softer at least. Poor thing I hope it gets better.

  • I had the same issue and bran muffins and Raison Bran has been working for me. Also, try to stay away from cheeses...
  • Oh, do not take caster oil or mineral oil as they are on the bad list of things to take.  I find that prune juice works the best.  One cup in the morning and one cup in the evening.  I chill it to take the taste away.  Also I take fiber gummies from Target each day.  I only use the prune juice when I feel that it is creeping up again.  You should not let constipation go on and sometimes food is just not enough.  There is nothing wrong with having to take a medicaton.  Constipation can lead to many problems.  Of course ask your doctor before you take anything over the counter.

  • you will find that a lot of us get it.  Are you drinking enough? that can cause constipation for sure.  I actually have fiber pills that I take one at a time to try and ease the pain and make me go as well.

  • Regular ol' Fiber One cereal works wonders for me!  I am, however, taking one docusate sodium per day now - I can't handle fiber one every day:)

  • My OB recommended cascada sagrada. You can buy it at a health store. It's totally natural. It's actually tree bark. It's a laxative, not a stool softener. It will help get things moving when they're stuck.  Take it when needed, not every day. If you're problem is hard stools & you need a stool softener, colace seems to work.  Good luck.

  • Metamucil is my friend. I drink it mixed ith 12 oz (because any less is even nastier) and then based on suggestion from my doctor, I drink another 8-12 oz of plain water right after so it doesn't bulk up in my belly too much.. and it helps makes sure I get my water. I do this 1x a day if I miss a day of bathroom... and when reallllly uncomfortable, 2-3 times. I don't every day if I don't need to (I am sure that will change again by trimester 3).

  • Thanks everyone!  Flaxseed helped and I started prune juice yesterday (mixed it with V8 fusion because of the taste) and that really helped!  I need to watch how much cheese I eat. 
  • yes! mine gets bad. i wont go for a few day and then it will just hit me hard. i will be immobile cramping and shaking until i get it all out of my system. its terrible
