Cloth Diapering

Diaper laundry ?

I have a huge capacity HE top loader, and my every other day newborn diaper laundry barely takes up any space. Is it safe to wash other stuff with my diapers? I was thinking of putting towels in after the initial cold rinse. Any thoughts or suggestions?

FYI, I'm using planet detergent, cold rinse, heavy duty wash hot/cold, extra rinse/extra water for a mix of prefolds and assorted aio's.

 Thanks!

Re: Diaper laundry ?

  • I always throw in extra kitchen rags/towels, bibs and sometimes an outfit that's too nasty to wait for real laundry (with 3 kids nasty outfits occur often).

  • I don't have an HE washer, but from what I've read, adding a towel or two to up the water in the load is a normal practice around here.  I personally wouldn't put any new never been washed clothing in because the colors may bleed onto my diapers, but otherwise there shouldn't be a problem.

  • I always do the first rinse with just diapers, but then I toss in any baby laundry we have, and that usually fills it up (my daughter is a super spitter!). On the rare occasion that it doesn't, I do add a couple towels.

I have the same routine as you, save for the detergent. I use tide powdered dtergent.
