Re: train table recs

  • We have this set. It fits wooden trains, but the plastic Thomas trains don't fit through the tunnels.

We bought it from Toys R Us a couple years ago.

We have this table in our playroom and I bought an around the town type mat for when he is playing cars. DS uses his table with his Thomas track, cars, puzzles, games, coloring, mega blocks.  I really like the storage drawers underneath.

  • We've had ours for 3 years (for my son) who has climbed on it, jumped up and down on it and jumped off it repeatedly.  It's still standing.  It's this one (and it's just the frame- the top is separate) https://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/4124QG225BL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

Having said that, I wouldn't spend the money on it again if I were doing it over.  It's a lot of money and I think the kid kraft or other solid wood type ones are just as good.  You don't need fancy drawers underneath either- I put everything in plastic bins and they slide under the table the same way.   Why wouldn't I spend the money again?  My son and many of his friends prefer to take the tracks and trains and use them on the floor.  They have more room and can do the layout any way they want.  The same was true when he was younger- right from the start he liked the floor better because he could reach everything easier.

As for the trains themselves (I know you didn't ask but I hope you dont' mind me adding my 2 cents), the wood tracks are much better and easier to put together for kids - but they don't stay together as well - some parents velcro them down for the kids.   Oh- and don't buy new Thomas and friends trains- so many parents are getting rid of stuff on ebay and craig's list.  I definitely scored some major finds there.

Hope this helps!   The costs of all the stuff adds up quickly but most boys love their trains for years and years- my son is almost 5 and there is no end in sight for him.
