Bedtime

How long does it take your Lo to fall asleep at night? Our routine last an hour and now I've watched her awake on the monitor for an hr. This seems to be the pattern with her, it takes her awhile to get herself to sleep-she's so sleepy on me and right as I lay her down she gets energy (smiling, babbling, fussing or just looking around)

Re: Bedtime

  • I put DS down either really drowsy or asleep. The handful of times that I put him down awake like that turned into a crying meltdown.

  • Honestly, right now (and I think it's because he is at the babysitter so he is more stimulated during the day) it takes me maybe 15 minutes to get him to go to sleep once I change him into jammies. Once he is asleep around 7 p.m., I don't hear from him again until 6 a.m.

  • Hannah gets a bath, bottle, and goes to bed anywhere from 7:30-9. Try to shoot for 8. If she is happy, but awake, or even fussing and awake, I don't pick her up. If anything, Ill go in and rock her (RnP) or rub her back (crib).

If she is just playing, I leave her alone. She has learned to put herself to sleep. Same thing in the morning. She plays for about 30 minutes before she gets fussy and is really "up".

We don't really push a routine during the day with a 3 month old. The only thing I do push is her learning how to calm herself down without me having to hold her.

We usually change her diaper and clothes at 9, feed her (bottle) and then rock her to sleep.  It usually takes 30 minutes for her to eat, including burping and another 15 to go to sleep.  LO plays hard during the day and mostly only catnaps at daycare so she is very tired by 9.  Before we got on a good schedule, we would wait until she was getting tired before we started feeding her and that made it easier to get her to stay asleep otherwise she would wake up the second we laid her down and within 30 minutes she would be fully awake and crying.

  • We cosleep and I nurse her down... It takes about 5 minutes for her to fall asleep, but probably another 20 mins before I can sneak away. Sometimes she'll wake up right at that 20 minute mark, and we'll go through the whole thing again... Your fortunate she can get herself to sleep, and sleep on her own - totally jealous :)

  • I change Grant, feed him, and then sing him a few songs. He is usually awake when I lay him down and he goes to sleep within minutes. It probably helps that he finds his thumb and soothes himself to sleep.

Our routine is pretty close to this. Around 9pm we change & feed. Usually done between 9:15-9:45. After burping and rocking for maybe 3 minutes, I lay her in her crib and leave the room. I do this whether she's snoozy or awake. If she fusses (50/50 in the first 10 minutes), I go back in a offer her a paci. After that, she's been going to sleep. If she loses her paci she's discovered her thumb and self-soothes. I found that if we wait any later, that she's super tired and is prone to crying and fussiness until around 11pm (by that time I'M tired and fussy as well).
