We have been so off schedule lately...I'm not sure what to do! For months and months my baby has been taking 2 naps a day (usually from 10am-11am, and then 3-5pm). Now for the past 2 weeks we are in sleeping hell...or lack of sleeping hell I should say. When she decides to take her second nap of the day, she then does not go to bed until 9:30 or 10pm. Then she wakes up 3-4 times during the night (which she never did before), then she usually wakes up for the day around 8:30ish for the day. Because she wakes up at 8:30am it throws off her whole nap schedule. She won't take her 1st nap until around 12:00 or 12:30...then she isn't tired for her second nap until 5:00ish. If I let her nap at 5:00 she is up again at 6:00pm and then we are completely and totally screwed up for the whole evening!!!
I am a first time Mom...so this is totally stressing me out! I don't know what happened to her awesome sleep schedule, but it has been crazy around here. Is anyone else experiencing this? Should I just give her one 2-3 hour nap in the middle of the day and skip the second nap????
Re: Is anyone's 10 month old only taking one nap a day?
Both of my kids are on the same sleeping/nap schedule.
7:00 am- wake up
10:00am- down for nap
11:30am- up from nap
6pm- down for the night
She might be ready for just one nap. My oldest stopped napping at 5months and didn't start again until about 2 months ago.
I would stick with the moved up nap at 12ish and then forgo a 2nd nap. If she gets overtired right before bed move her bedtime up a little bit (even 15 minutes can make a HUGE difference).

I've been in the SAME boat!
I heard from a few mom friends that this is common around 9-10 months, and when I researched it they were right! One book said this disruption in sleep is not an actual change in sleeping patterns but more of a, I-wanna-see-the-world-and-be-a-part-of-everything, thing and they don't want to spend time sleeping. I read it could last a month or two, and to try hard not to form new bad sleeping habits.
My daughter was putting herself to sleep like a champ, like clockwork, twice a day for 5 months. Then one day she woke up and decided to scream if we even go near her crib, and only sleep in her carseat. It is getting a little better, but I have busted out the swing again and she usually cat naps in there and then I nurse her to sleep in the afternoon.
We will get through this!

According to our Pedi, lots of kids drop their morning naps around 1 year old. My LO has been napping horribly at DC lately. He used to nap up to 5 hours a day, but now I'm lucky if he gets two 30 minute naps.
On weekends he tends to nap a lot better. He still naps twice a day, but sometimes only once.
As for the waking dfuring the night...my LO does wake a little bit most nights. He usually puts himself back to sleep. Sometimes we have to go in and give him his pacifier (I think ti's all teething related for my LO).
