VBAC or Scheduled Section?

I'm torn if I should try for a VBAC or just go ahead and go with the c section. I had an emergency c section with DS after desperately wanting to go med free. I had a pretty easy recovery and so I'm wondering if it would just be easier to save my energy and be able to schedule the section when it's convenient (Friday as opposed to going to labor on Sunday night like last time) How did you make your decision? xp with c sections

Re: VBAC or Scheduled Section?

  • Mine was pretty easy b/c I never really wanted a vbac for personal reasons. Plus it was super nice to schedule it so I knew someone was here with ds1 and I know someone will be here for ds1 and ds2 in a few weeks. My recovery from my first was easy but recovery from my 2nd was even easier.

How did you handle not being able to pick up #1? I am worried he will not understand and cry because I can't pick him up.

  • I'm going to try for a VBAC. It is safer.

It's partly because of my fear of surgery tho too.

You need to remember that your LO will be older, by the time you have #2, so he won't need to be picked up as much. My LO was 18 months when #2 was born, I only lifted him into the highchair, and bent down to him if he needed comfort. My recovery the second time was easy, I tried for a VBAC this time and am so glad I did even though it wasnt successful. My reasons for trying were the risk is a lot lower with a VBAC, we want 4 kids ( thus having multiple surgeries), and the recovery is better and being able to take care of your other LO sooner. I would at least try for a VBAC, the VBAC board is an excellent resource.

This. I have no desire for another major surgery.
