Memorial Day, May 28th I went to bed and got everything ready to go to
work. All night I had mild contractions 10 mins apart until 6am, then
they stopped. I called work and decided to work from home day. Tuesday
night, May 29th, I decided to take a sleeping pill and try to get some
sleep so that if labor was imminent I would be rested. I woke up at
12:35am May 30th having contractions but again sort of mild. This
lasted all night but b/c I had taken a sleeping pill I was able to sleep
between contractions. I thought they would die down too but instead at
6:30 am when I got up to use the restroom I noticed some blood on the
toilet paper and told Leo that I thought he should stay and work from
home. The contractions at that point were 8-10 mins apart.
I logged on to my work computer finished up some stuff and went for a
short walk with Pebbles. I finished packing my hospital bag, picking up
the house and by 9:30 am they were 6-7 mins apart. I called the dr's
office and they told me to wait until they were closer together 5-6
mins. By 10:30am they were 6 mins apart and I was having to breath
through the contractions. At about 11am I called the dr's office again
to let them know were were going to be on the way. Right at that moment
my contractions started coming 3-4 mins apart. We jumped in the car
and headed to the hospital at about 11:15am.
This is when things got a little rough and the contractions were getting
pretty intense. 11:30am we parked in the garage and headed to
L&D. They checked me in and the nurse checked my progress and I was
at 6cm! I could not believe it and started crying b/c I didn't think I
was going to have enough time to get an epidural. Contractions were
coming about 3 mins. The took me to the delivery room took blood,
started IV fluids and they monitoring the baby and the contractions.
I was restricted to the bed and had to labor laying down b/c the baby's
heart rate was dipping when I was sitting up. I kept asking DH to ask
about the epidural b/c the pain was getting really bad and the
contractions were coming every 2-3 mins and lasting about a minute. I
was freaking out that I would not get an epidural, transition was going
to start, and I would have to push the baby without any meds. At some
point they gave me some Nubain and it helped take the edge off. At
about 1:15pm they said the anesthesiologist was on his way! I was so
happy to hear that news. I could have kissed the nurse.
At 1:30pm the anesthesiologist came in and started my epidural. The
first one didn't take and they had to re-do it. The first epidural took
away the pain so I could not feel the 2nd one. They did my epidural on
my side b/c the baby's heart rate was dipping. I finally felt some
relief but I started to feel an intense amount of pressure. The nurse
checked me and I was at 9cm!
The dr came in a few mins later and I was at 10cm and had so much
pressure I thought I was just having to go to the bathroom. The Dr
broke my water and got the room ready for delivery. Shortly after 2pm
maybe 2:10pm, they told me push when I felt the pressure. The baby's
heart rate would dip with every contraction and there was meconium in
the water. I felt very rushed and after 15-20 mins of pushing the dr
said we need him out and that she needed to give me an episiotomy to
help me get him out. And after pushing for just between 20-30 mins,
Lucas Adrain made his appearance. They took him quickly and they
suction out all the meconium. He also had his cord wrapped twice around
his neck. When the finally had him checked out, they gave him to me so
that I could hold him. I could not believe that after 9 long months
but just a few hours of labor, Lucas made his appearance! Lucas weighed
a whopping 6lbs 3oz and measured 19.25 inches.
We are happy to be home and trying to sleep and rest as much as we can. Nicolas is in love with his little brother and is adjusting.
