Who went over 41 wks and avoided an induction?

Even though it seems less and less likely as the days go by, I'm still hopeful that I'll go into labor naturally and avoid being induced. My next appointment is tomorrow afternoon, and I plan to try and negotiate for as much time as possible. Hopefully I'll have my membranes stripped again as well. My OB stripped my membranes on Friday (I was 2-3 cm) ... Obviously I'm still pregnant. Any positive stories or labor dust appreciated!

  • Sending labor dust your way!! I'm hoping to avoid induction as well. I think you can bargain for 42 weeks. Most drs draw the line there though. Good luck! I'm going to the dr tomorrow and going to try to do the same.

  • Good luck and lots of labor dust.   I'm at 40 weeks 5 days and while my doctor would prefer a Wednesday induction she gave me till next Monday 41 weeks 5 days.   I think you'll be hard pressed to find a doctor that is comfortable with going past 42 weeks.   Hopefully you'll have LO soon, the average for healthy first time moms without intervention is 41 weeks 1 day.
  • Good luck! My fingers are crossed for you. My OB doesn't want me going much past 41 weeks so I'm being induced on Friday (41w1d).

  • ME! My sweet baby girl was born at 42w0d. She was doing fabulous, passed two NSTs and a BPP with flying colors, and her heart rate was FANTASTIC all through labor, even through the entire hour and a half of pushing which she was facing the wrong way for much of the time. You can do it!

Some things I think worked for me:

Lemon verbena & castor oil cocktail. There is a specific recipe for this and it works well, and the mixture does NOT make you sick (I had no reaction at all). I had to get the lemon verbena from my mw, though, so not sure you could do it on your own.

Blue and black cohosh tinctures. I took them the day I went into labor several times (following a recommended schedule).

Acupuncture. Which I was totally skeptical about. But I went into labor almost immediately upon leaving the appointment. Could be luck or timing with the other two things I did that day, but hey, it was some pretty impressive and it certainly can't harm anything.

  • I'm at 41w5d and still avoiding induction.  I have had to say no firmly 3 times in the last couple of weeks.  Even with low amniotic fluid and a big baby I am completely confident this is happening for a reason and I keep on putting off my Dr for a couple more days each time.  GL with whatever you decide.  I am 4cm and the Dr stripped my membranes (w/o my permission) a few hours ago, that wasn't something I was expecting but better than pit I guess.
