Pregnant after a Loss

I just looked at pic if 3rd / 4th degree tear....

DON'T DO IT!  My vag just ran and hid up my a$$hole. I keep trying to tell her that sometimes that wont even protect her... She doesn't believe me.

Apparently, I need to introduce her to Dr. Google.... Thankfully, my iPad won't fit....

Someone hold me... I'm scared......

Re: I just looked at pic if 3rd / 4th degree tear....

  • Just remember not everyone has tearing! I keep telling myself I didn't tear the first time I will not tear this time. My vag knows how to stretch! And yours will too. Something I just remember thinking in labor was the old mervyns commercial where the lady was standing at the door saying Open open open. Before each check I thought of this in the hopes it would make my vag bigger.

And of course... I immediately went to dr google to look.... Why? I don't know. I think we're going to need a group hug before to long LOL
We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • If it makes you feel any better I had 3rd degree rectal tearing (lovely, right?) with DS and after the first few days the discomfort went away and it healed up no problem.  Don't be scared, it's not so bad, tell your vag she'll be okay Wink

  • This is why I really think I want an epidural.  I'm not as scared about the delivery pain, as much as I am about the repair.

  • It was rough for me, but trust me...you all will get through it, tear or no tear, episiotomy or no episiotomy.  I had a lot of pain down there after my episiotomy and I would do it all over again.

  • Aww don't be too scared.  I had a 3rd degree tear.  It took about 2 weeks to not hurt anymore, but honestly it was manageable.

  • I had an episiotomy - and an epidural - honestly I didn't even know my doc was cutting me until she was done.  It was painful healing but didnt' take that long.  And I just googled 3rd degree tear and only found drawings, no pics.  Maybe that's a good thing =)=)

  • Lol Google can be evil!!  But in all reality, 3rd and 4th degree tears are not all that common.  Also there's a good chance you'll be numbed up and won't feel it anyway.  I had an episiotomy with my son and it didn't hurt during.  Recovery was pretty sucky but it was only about 4 days before I was feeling a lot better.  AND there's a chance you won't tear or need to be cut.

Just so you know, they will numb you before stitching you up if you haven't had an epi. As for the days and weeks after, that is what ice packs and Percocet are for.

I had bad tearing with my first but felt much better after about two weeks. I tore less with my second and honestly don't even remember if I tore the last time around. My advice, don't look at pictures!

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • There are just some things I've forced myself not to google about pregnancy and birth. That is totally one of them! I'm sooo scared of that!

Before I got pregnant the first time, I googled what they do if an episiotomy doesn't help. For the love of everything holy, don't go there! It's a miracle I ever had sex again.

  • OMG Roxy, WHY IN GOD'S NAME would you look that up?!?  No wonder your vag is hiding in your a-hole!  It's bad enough to imagine what it feels like, let alone what it would look like!  I think this is why many women say never to use a hand mirror after a certain point in pregnancy and post-partum.  Your poor eyes!  Now go wash them out with soap!

If its any consolation this is What I thought too, buti had my baby yesterday and had no meds, 2 tears and an episiotomy and I did not even know about them until after when the doctor told me. They froze me and I didn't feel the repairs either. And that's with no pain meds! So try not to worry!! Lol but I will not be googling pictures or using a mirror LOL.

Really?  I had a 3rd degree tear and my stitches fell out after 3 days so it took 8w to heal and I never took any meds for tear pain.  Granted, I was in a ton of pain because I broke my tailbone, so maybe that pain, out did tear pain, I don't know.

The only time I was really concerned about the pain was when I had to pee.  Using the little squirt bottle while you pee can pretty much take care of any burning at the tear site.  Oh and to help speed healing, invest in a sitz bath.  It's amazing what sitting in an epsom salt soak can do.  I had to do it 3x a day for weeks post delivery because of the stitches issue, but it helped a ton.
