Do I have to separate white and colored baby clothes when washing the new ones for the first time?

So I've already washed all the hand me down clothes but now I've got some new clothes and blankets to wash. I normally wash all my clothes together and don't separate the whites/colored, so do I need to separate the babies new clothes or can I wash them together? Can I wash the clothes with the blankets or wash them separately?

Since I'm home today instead of at work I thought I'd start doing baby laundry :)

  • I washed all his whites and pastels together and all his darker clothes together. I added blankets in with them depending on if they were light or dark.

I would be careful of the new brightly colored items, but if you wash everything on cold, it likely shouldn't matter too much.

This. I'll probably do the first wash separately, but if you set it on cold it shouldn't run.

I would do the first time wash separately. I don't usually do whites and colors separately after the first wash unless I feel like using bleach.

This is me, too.  Any time I have a brand new colored item, be it baby or grown-up, I wash it only with like colors for the first wash.  After that, I combine everything.

  • I would just wash it like you do adult clothes.  I never used special detergent on DD's clothes and wont with DS's either unless he has a skin reaction to our detergent.

One load, cold wash, cold rinse.

This, I've already washed all my LO's clothes, blankets, towels and bedding.  I put all the clothes in one wash on cold.  If I have enough to do two different loads of clothes I'll go ahead and sort the colors and whites.  I do sort the towels out on there own, then the bedding and blankets by themselves all on cold wash and cold rinse.

I haven't had any dark colors or bright reds run on any of the white onsies or light colored clothes on cold water.

Wow! I feel like a complete anal OCD about my laundry now....

I have a special laundry sorter that I use for my clothes to make it easier when I do wash but I seperate darks, colors and whites and then of course sheets and towels are seperate as well.

Hadn't put too much thought into doing babies clothes any differently, although his stuff will all go in 1 hamper.  I might be making more work for myself in the long run....hmmm now I will have to figure out how I want to do this since I have yet to wash ANYTHING of his! (I attempted to pick out a coming home outfit last night and I have a cute NB one but I have no clue what size he is so I now need to also find a 0-3 to bring as well) Then it was confusing on what to actually wash & take tags off and what to leave and well I gave up lol.

I think for the first wash at least I will seperate, and decide later after he's here if I want to continue to seperate or just throw em all in together.

LOL This post def made me realize how OCD i was with laundry too! Drives my DH bonkers :)
