What did you wipe your crib down with?

If you bought a new crib, did you clean it with anything after it was assembled?  I have some clorox wipes at home - will that do or will it mess up the wood?  DH put the crib together yesterday and it looks great, there is no odd smell or anything coming from it, but I feel like I should clean it with something before we add the mattress and bedding.  Is it necessary?

  • I use diluted vinegar/water to clean everything in my house. Never had any issues.

  • Try diluted vinegar and water like the PP mentioned.
  • I didn't wipe mine down. The thought really never occured to me. I did wash the sheets though before I put them on the mattress because I wanted them to smell fresh.

  • I don't think we wiped ours down with anything but a damp cloth to get any dust off. It's up to you though. Maybe do like a pp mentioned with vinegar and water?

  • I used a little Pledge on a soft cloth and just did a quick dust cleaning on it. Didn't even cross my mind to clean it with anything else.

  • I wiped it down with soap and water. The delivery guy said to wash it with things that you would be willing to put in your baby's mouth.

  • We just had our crib delivered last Friday from PBK and they made it very clear (even came with a cleaning card) that the only thing that can be used on it is a damp cloth. Absolutely no cleaners or polish. I think what to use depends on the type of wood and finish. If it is new it will tell you how to clean it in the manual.

SO glad I am not the only one that never thought about this!

  • I wiped it with a damp papertowel. It was a little dusty from manufacturing. I wouldn't use anything that might damage the wood, like clorox wipes.
