1st dentist appointment

I finally took DS1 to the dentist and he did awesome. I know the question of a good pediatric dentist has come up on here a few times so I have to recommend the place I took him (Vernon Pediatric Dentistry in Severna Park). I was really worried about how he would react but as soon as we walked in he started playing in their play area, then Dr. Vernon came out and introduced herself to him before they took him back. She let him pick what movie he wanted to watch and then she gave him this big stuffed kangaroo (with big fake teeth in his mouth and a hinged jaw) to sit in his lap, and then handed him a big toothbrush and told him to go ahead and brush the kangaroo's teeth. He loved it. She went over his health history and brushing habits with me while he played with the kangaroo and then did his exam. I was completely astonished to see him just open up his mouth and sit perfectly still for her the whole time. She even scraped a little bit of tartar buildup off his bottom teeth and he didn't budge. When he was done he got three tokens to put in the toy machine which of course was a big deal.

She is REALLY good with kids and has a very gentle warm demeanor so he was not scared or intimidated by her at all. I would seriously drive an hour to go here and will be taking DS2 to her when it is time. Just wanted to rave here for a minute because it is rare I find a doctor I love this much!

Oh sounds like a great experience. We are hoping to take A with us in August when DH goes, but I'm thinking of looking for just a pediatric dentist in Harford County.

A friend of mine highly recommends Dr. Stephen Levin in Forest Hill, just FYI.

  They aren't in network....  know of any other pediatric dentists in the Severna Park/Annapolis/Glen Burnie area?

There is another practice in Annapolis on Defense Highway that i was going to check out, but they did not participate in my insurance. My SIL went there and said they were very good. Name is escaping me now though.

Also you may want to double check with your insurance....they were out of my network too but all preventative care is covered 100%. just wanted to throw that out there!

ditto MrsRemy - we went out of network for my LO too - and it was 30.

We have BCBS Fed Basic and they don't cover anything out-of-network.  (If I had standard they would).  If you remember the name of the other place please let me know.

Dr. Iris Shields...she's in the Ambulatory Care Center adjacent to UCMC.  LOVE her!
