Rec your carrier

I did not get a wrap or carrier for DD1, but since DD2 is due a few days before DD1 turns 1 I am thinking I need to get one.

I am very large chested so that needs to be considered. Any suggestions??

Re: Rec your carrier

  • I loved my Moby when DD was little. Once she was about 15lbs, she wasn't a huge fan of it. Granted, I didn't use it as often as I probably could have. I also have a MaiTai (she loved this) and a Becco Butterfly (never quite got into this one, though I think I like it best). I just don't use a carrier as much as I'd like. And now that I'm expecting, I'm worried to carry DD with a baby carrier (maybe I don't need to worry, though). The maitai was nice because it was cheap and super easy to tie. It's basically a cross between a moby and something like a becco or ergo (in my opinion).

  • The Moby is nice for a snuggly infant but they grow out of it pretty fast (depends on the baby). It's a good "fourth trimester" carrier so my boy who was premature liked it longer than my full term girl.

Right now I love my ring sling and so does my baby. But it can be tricky to learn and if you wear it wrong it's uncomfortable. I like it because it's easy to get on and off while holding baby (as opposed to putting them down to put the carrier on).

Another carrier we have that is awesome is the Ergo. It's not great for the little one but I still love carrying my toddler in it. Yesterday we walked to the Farmer's Market (down a busy road with no sidewalk or shoulder) and I had the baby in a stroller and the toddler on my back in the Ergo. I prefer that to a double stroller. The Ergo will also work for the younger sibling when they're a little older and then you can avoid the stroller altogether (because a 3+ year old can totally walk by themselves).

  • I have a large chest and find the ergo incredibly comfortable.

I've read bad reviews with the ergo for shorter women, so you may want to consider something else if you're large chested/short.

  • I have big boobs - 32G/H while nursing and I LOVE my baby k'tan. It's the moby for dummies in my opinion. It's easy to use and it didn't have tons of fabric like the moby. I used in constantly with ds2 until he was about 10months old then I switched to the ergo.

I'm only 5'1 and big boobs. The ergo is great for me but for older babies. I didn't switch to it until ds2 was 10 months old. I love the back carry for him until I got to pg again to wear him. I used it all over disney world whne he was 12 months old.

That's interesting. I always notice when the ergo is mentioned on here/AP board and there's a bad review on it, the person mentions they're short.

We have the Ergo. I love it!! I've used it with my DS since he was just a few weeks old. They make an infant insert so you can and he was absolutely fine with it. Now he's 8 months old and I wear him a lot either on the front carry or back carry. I mention every time I use it how it was the best thing I've ever bought! I also wear my 22 month old a lot on my back. She loves it!

I'm 5ft 3 and it fits me just fine. I have the Ergo Sport.
  • I have the Britax carrier, not many people have heard of itor have it, but I love it. It has really great back support (DS is super heavy), and worked well when he was a newborn. I'm not large chested, but I wouldn't imagine that it would be uncomfortable if you do.

  • I'm only 5'2" and hate the ergo

I just got a moby for my lo and LOVE it! I have found it works best if I prewrap before I leave the house and then just slip ds in when we get to where we're going. Even if I only use it for four months it's already paid for its self in less stress for me.

For older kids I LOVE LOVE my scootababy, it puts them on your hip where youd normally carry them and is so easy to get in and out of. I carried my older ds in it until he was a year old and I was three months pregnant with my youngest.
