Baby Names

Nicknames for Avery.....

I'm not a fan of nicknames but every kid has them.  We love the name Avery for a girl (Avery Mae, to be precise) but I want to be sure we've sorted out any potential nicknames that I just couldn't possibly live with (like people who call an Olivia, "olive" or something).

Our last name starts with an H and rhymes with 'mall' and I had to talk my husband out of naming our first child Carnegie.

Thoughts?

Re: Nicknames for Avery.....

  • I honestly can not think of a NN for Avery. Ave?  Im curious to see what they are.

If anyone called my child "ReeRee," I would punch them in the face.

What is it about ReeRee that makes you want to punch someone in the face?

  • Probably Ave or Ava? I knew an Avery and she just went by Avery, if that makes you feel better Smile  NN are definitely possible to go without... my full name is Kittery, and while my family calls me Kit, all through school I just told everyone my full name, and surprisingly no one even tried shortening it.

I wasn't aware of that term being used that way.  Then I would not suggest that nickname.

That is so good to hear.  I was hoping most people would say that there weren't any obvious nicknames for it... but I definitely agree about "Ree Ree" though.  I'd definitely put a stop to that one with a quickness.

Ahh. I never would have made that connection.

  • Rae might work too...
  • I don't think there are any common ones, and I wouldn't pick one for Avery.  It's a nice name in and of itself (apparently this is my mantra today, lol).  I guess eventually people might shorten it to "Ave" with a long "a" sound, much like people sometimes shorten Olivia to "Liv"

  • I call my nephew Av.  Maybe it's because of the family connection, but I dislike this name for a girl.

  • My 2 year old is named Avery and while we generally just call her Avery she has been called Avy or Aves.

  • Our 7 yr old is Avery and we almost always call her "Ave" (long a sound).  I claimed I would never have a nn for her, but it just works.  We and others also call her "A" sometimes.

  • My DD's name is Avery.  Almost everyone in our family all have different nicknames they call her, and none of them have anything to do with her name.

Idiots like to refer to people with mental retardation as "reerees".
