Graco Playard?

I registered for a Graco Playard at babies r us that retails for $199.  I have a feeling I am not getting this for my shower (i am having a very SMALL shower) and from peeking at the registry see that a lot of big ticket items---all 3 car seats, stroller, monitor---were already purchased, but the playard is still there.

I noticed online that there are a BUNCH of graco playards ranging from $60-$300.  What is the difference?  I see that some have extra features but what do I really need?  Is the $200 one worth it, or should I take it down a notch to something around $100.

Re: Graco Playard?

  • I think you can get a really nice play yard for 100 dollars or less.  200 seems extremely expensive...

  • We just got a Graco pack n play from my SIL for our shower. I think the model is Soho. It was $99.00 and has a newborn nap station/changing station. We live in a town house so we really needed a place for our lil guy to sleep and have diapers changed on our main level. I think 200 is a lot for a pack n play but I guess what ever fits your needs!!

  • I originally had the 200 dollar version as well because it came with a rocking seat but then we got a bjorn rocker off craigslist so changed it to a cheaper version on my registry. And it was bought yesterday.  We are going to kive in an apartment so the extras weren't going to be worth it.
  • We had a $180 Chicco playard on our registry and after thinking about it and researching others, we decided to take it off and register for a cheaper one. Graco had the best reviews. You can get a basic one for $60 if you don't plan to use it in the room for the first couple months. I would recommend getting that one, but if you do plan to use it when your LO is still little, I would get the $99 with the changing pad and bassinet.

We just got this one as a shower gift today and it had the best reviews and I love the flip feature with the changing pad and bassinet.

  • MIL got us this one (I think she paid less, though). So Im pretty sure you can find a decent one for far less than $200. $200 seems steep for a play yard.

  • I checked consumer reports, and some other reviews for most of my baby stuff. Also, the Graco website may give prices for different websites and stores.

  • This one is set up in my room, at the foot of my bed.  My "intention" is to be able to use this the first couple of months as her sleeper and changing station; then transition her to her crib in her room. Plans....who the heck knows if this will actually work....but I guess we'll see!

We have one,I do not remember the exact style. But it was less than 100$,It did not have a napper or changing pad,but that was fine.More than 2 years later it is one of the best baby gear items we bought.

  • I got one with a few bells and whistles and really only needed the bassinet feature (for newborn sleep) and actual PNP (for when I needed a safe place for him to play when he was sitting/mobile).  Everything else I didn't use and actually took off.  I used the changing table a couple times, but found myself using our bed more.

  • We registered for https://www.target.com/p/Graco-Pack-n-Play-Little-Wonders/-/A-10992865 after debating between that and the more expensive https://www.target.com/p/Graco-Newborn-Napper-Pack-n-Play-Playard-Meadow-Menagerie/-/A-13478065

The difference is the more expensive one has the bassinet and newborn napper (vs the other just has newborn napper), there is a music player, and then the little diaper bag thing on the side.  I think the basic ones work just fine, I actually prefer the one we registered for because it has a musical mobile and the other doesn't.

  • 2 things I want in a PNP: the little attachment that plays music and has a nightlight and the changing station.  The one we picked is a Graco, which I agree is the best one.  Its about $159.

Our last one was a Graco.  My mom is getting that one for when DS will spend the night or when we are over there and baby needs to nap, whatever.  But, I loved it!  I don't care for the bassinet/newborn sleeper.
