My son will be 2 five days before I have my scheduled csection. Just wondering if others are transitioning theirs to a toddler bed or getting another crib?
DD1 was 19 months when DD2 was born. We kept DD2 in our room until almost 6 months so we could continue using the crib for DD1. At 23 months she chose to switch to the toddler bed, and a month or so later we started using the crib for the baby. The move to a toddler bed when amazingly well for us, but if it hadn't, we would have either borrowed a second crib for a few more months or kept DD2 in the pack'n'play for a while longer and DD1 in the crib.

I haven't moved DD to a toddler bed, and honestly I'm in no rush. It is still working for us and I'd hate to mess with that. That being said...
We were given a toddler bed for free so no way was I buying another crib to only use a few months. #2 will be in our room at least 3 mos so that gives us some extra time to hold off on the toddler bed.
My birth month board from DD has a lot of people talking about making the switch. One person mentioned she had to move her child to a toddler bed sooner than anticipated bc she was ordered by her Dr to no pick him up anymore (she's pg). This is something you'll need to consider after giving birth. There are lifting restrictions, particularly with a c-section.
We moved my son at 18 months because we knew we weren't buying a 2nd crib (we had been given a toddler bed) and because I had a hard time lifting him while pregnant, and especially lowering him sleeping into the crib. I think lifting might be a consideration for you as well, with a c-section.
We did a twin bed for ds1 before ds2 came when he was 14mths old. DS2 went into a twin bed a few months ago at 17months. We just didn't see any reason to get another crib when we could move the boys into twin beds. We've never had issues and their sleep still was good after the transition.
We bought a second crib, and they were 19.5 months apart. DS1 didn't transition to a twin bed until 27 months, and I don't think he was ready before that. We just went with a $99 IKEA crib for DS2, and now that we have #3 on the way I'm happy we have 2 cribs and both cribs convert to toddler beds.

I just talked to DS's pediatrician about this. He said the bed would be his first choice. I think we're going to try a double bed, right around 22 months or so. DS will be 19 months when DD is born and we'll keep her in our room for a few months.
Our plan is to move DD to a twin bed around 19 months. LO #2 is due when DD will be 20 months. If it fails my sister is going to give me her crib. She's transitioning her daughter at the same time, her daughter is 9 months older than DD.
My two are 18months apart. We started transitioning older DD to a twin bed about a month ago (21months). She is doing really well with it BUT one of us has to lay in bed with her until she falls asleep. She is still napping in her crib. Younger DS sleeps in rock-n-play at night and either packnplay or swing for naps. I think this should continue to work for us until DD is fully transitioned out of the crib. It just did not seem worth paying for a 2nd crib for such a short time.
My DS will be 22 months when my DD is born. We went ahead and purchased another crib for her. I was initially really anxious to get him transitioned, but decided there was really no rush. He does really well in his crib.
I am going to wait a little longer.

My child will be 19 months when the new baby comes, and we plan on keeping the 19 month old in a crib as long as possible. I am able to borrow a crib for the new baby, so we don't have to spend the money on a new crib.
DS1 is still in his crib. He has a convertible crib that we had to buy toddler rails separately for, so we bought the same crib for DS2 and will use the rails for him when it is time. We're not in a rush to transition DS1 to a toddler bed and will probably keep him in the crib for awhile. He does look kind of funny in it since he is getting so big, though!
