I think its fine if Michael has some kind of significance. I have a friend who named her daughter Michael Brooke and they call her Mikey B which I think is cute and fits her well good luck!
Do people hate this? We are tossing around Catherine Michael for a girl.
Personally, I don't like it when perfectly nice female versions of Michael exist (i.e., Michaela, Michelle). It reads more like a double ln. On the other hand, mn's are a good place to be sentimental and experimental. If you love it, go for it!

I agree with pp that I don't really like it for a name like Michael- super masculine with perfectly good female versions. I could see it working on a name with a surname feel like Reid, Graham, or Mason. Again, it would ideally have some significance.
Is Michael to honor someone specifically or do you just like it? I don't hate it if it is specifically to honor someone.
However my preference would be to use a feminine derivative if possible. In your case Catherine Michelle sounds so much prettier to me. She can still explain she was named for her g-pa (or whomever) Michael.
Thanks ladies. It is my FIL's name and also DH's mn. We don't plan on trying again so this will be our last chance to use it. For some reason, the feminine versions don't do it for me.
I think it's OK when it could be a LN or something. IE- It was Mom or Grandma's maiden name.
It's kind of a weird thing to do if there is no family significance. If DH is Mike and you just want a namesake I think Michaela or Michelle do just fine and are more appropriate.

In this case I say go for it. I think it flows well and it would be a special name for her and for her father and gpa.
I am very very very strongly against using boys names on girls. BUT for a middle name honoring someone I am fine with it! We plan on a bigger family but if we only have girls from here on out, I would probably use Michael as a mn for the last one to honor my dad. I also do not at all like the feminine versions. If we have another son his MN will be Michael and that will be that, though.
I like it! I actually knew a girl in high school who had the first name of Michael, so it's less weird to me. I think it flows really well too.
Same here. I especially think it sounds great considering you're honouring a family member with the name!

I personally don't see anything wrong with it. Its actually quite common in french culture both pairing male-female names or female-male. Does it have to be spelled Michael exactly? What about Michel - the french spelling and technically pronounced Mee-Shel?

Yes, most people will hate this.
I, like PP, think it is acceptable when the name has meaning. I don't get just doing it for fun though.

I seem to be outnumbered here but I'm strongly against Michael as a middle name for a girl, even with the family significance.
