So I took Smilelari's really helpful hint and ordered two boxes of assorted NurturMe for 40% off. (Thanks Smilelari!!) For those who don't know what it is, it's a freeze-dried, powder-form, baby food that comes in small individual paper packets. You just add breast-milk, formula or water to desired consistency, kinda like baby oatmeal or rice cereal. Because the food is not exposed to heat, it retains more flavor, nutrients and phytochemicals.
So far we've tried Squash, Peas and Carrots, letting her feed herself with a spoon. The flavor of these things is awesome, it doesn't taste like the purees, it has a much fresher flavor (Which I am happy to introduce so she doesn't get used to the similar flavors of all the jarred food) and it has a bright natural color. They're super easy to tote and super easy to make. A couple times I just used bottled water, which worked well. Only thing that was kinda weird is that when left for a bit it gets crusty and flakes off everywhere like it's returning to powder form, just clumpier. That can be a bit messy but then it's easier to clean a dry mess than it is to clean a gooey wet mess, nobody likes messes either way.
I really recommend them for mama's going on long trips that don't want to tote jars. They also seem awesome for toddler recipes or even for mom's who are doing BLW/ finger foods right now (To add to recipes). I've thought about putting it in some spaghetti or pasta to help add some nutrients to the whole families food but i'm trying to save them for my trip.
Thanks again Smilelari.
