DH works 4-5 nights per week during dinner/bath/bed so I'm on my own. I said we do simultaneous bed time, but its a little more like "shifts" partially because we can't fit 5 kids into the tub at the same time! The girls will take a bath, while they are getting dressed the boys will hop in, so the boys are "one step" behind the girls, but they usually catch up when it comes to getting dressed. Girls gossip so much even at 2 and 3 1/2! LOL
One of the reasons I asked is because mine used to be sequential (and that's how I answered) but the baby's sleep is shifting so it'll be simultaneous soon and I'm alone 6 nights/week. I'd love to hear more about how you manage shifts.
DH works on a rig, so when he is home he helps out. Now that the kids are in the same room we both help, but before DH would read to DS and I would put DD down, and then come and kiss DS and tuck him in.
When DH is gone I used to have a 10 min netflix show on for DS and put DD down to bed, then get him and do the same. Now we do it all together since they are in the same room. IT takes longer since DD thinks its play time, but she eventually talks herslef to sleep and DS passes out and ignores her.

"prep work" is key for us. Before calling any of the kids upstairs I gather PJ's/diapers/etc for the little ones (DS1, DS2 and DD1 can get their own stuff). Turn on the bath, call the girls upstairs and grab DS3. The two girls take off their own clothes (DD2 needs help with her diaper), they put their clothes in the hamper right outside the bathroom door and hop in the bath while I undress DS3 and put him in. I give them vitamins and wash all three. I take out DS3, dry him off, brush teeth, get him dressed (in the bathroom).
Call the boys to come upstairs, they begin to undress, put clothes in the hamper and get in the tub. White they undress I take out DD1, dry off and send her to get dressed. Take out DD2 and dress her in the bathroom. Give the boys vitamins and wash their hair. Brush the girls teeth and bring them to their room along with DS3. Boys hop out of the bath (drain the tub) dry off and send them to get dressed. Put away the tub toys and straighten the bathroom, after the boys dress they come back to the bathroom, brush teeth and then everyone goes to the girls room for a story.
I'm on my own 2-3 nights a week sometimes 4. Until ds2 was 6 months, I did him first and ds1 played in his room or watched a mickey. Thankfully their bedrooms share a bathroom that connects between the rooms so it was easy to keep ds1 happy. Once 6 months hit, they started bathing together and life got a lot easier. This is how we still do it. I take them upstairs and ds1 picks out his pjs while I get ds2's pjs/diaper set out. Then ds1 turns on the water while I get them both updressed. I bath both and they play some. I get ds2 out first and dress him then get ds1 out and dress him. They are both in the same room now so we brush teeth, read our devotional then lights out. When they were in separate rooms, I did everything including putting ds2 down first. Then did everything with ds1.
Once ds3 gets here, I will bath him, nurse him, put him down first then do the older boys bath. ds1 and ds2 get to watch a mickey before bed so I will let them do that while I do ds3.
When dh is home, he does bath then I do pjs. We both help brush teeth then we all read their devotional and pray then kisses, lights out.

WOW!!! Do you do bath time every night?? I don't know how you do it? We only do a bath 2 times a week right now and its a lot of work.
It was a long road for our family...our 3 angels in heaven are always watching over us!!!

We bathe on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday during the winter, everyday in the summer (Spring/Fall are a mix). Whenever I put sunscreen on I feel like they need a bath before bed, it usually means they've been playing outside, or went in the pool.
Honestly if I don't let them play for 20 minutes in the tub the whole routine takes about 30 minutes. When there is no bath I can have them down in 10 minutes, depending on how long the story is!

For the record, I think you're pretty amazing.
Also, thanks for the play by play. Sounds like you have a good system going.
Mom puts both children to bed one after the other, dad plays with the later bedtime kid until mom is ready. That was my vote, but really DH is reading and starting DD's bedtime while DS goes down. We are very blessed with a DS who literally just wants to be put down at bedtime and goes to sleep on his own within a few minutes.
We are both home at bedtime, but 99% of the time, DH does bedtime for both kids by himself at the same time. He takes both kids up stairs, changes them both, puts them in their beds (same room), and says goodnight.
So, non-single parent, and the other parent is available, but DH does it.
I'm a SS because my baby isn't here yet. We plan to put them to bed together as that is what we do now. How ever LO now may go to be earlier by that time and the NB will be up and down a lot at first.
Normally, my DH puts my daughter to bed and I put my son to bed. Same routine just in different rooms. However, he leaves this Friday for three weeks so I'll switch over to earlier bath time and put older daughter to bed first while DS runs amuck in her room and then do his bedtime routine in his room. Now, when #3 gets here in July - I have no idea!!!
I am alone about 4 nights a week. Now, I bath, dress, brush teeth, potty, books with both boys together. Then DS1 waits a few minutes while I lay DS2 in bed. He can be laid in bed and left quickly. Then I put DS1 to bed, which takes about 10 mins bc we chat, etc. And I guess this has been the routine for a long time, ever since DS2 shared the same bed time (since he was under a year old). So the short answer is I do all the prep simultaneously.
Usually DH gives the toddler a bath while I BF the baby or clean up after dinner. OR he hangs out w/baby and cleans and I give toddler a bath.
The usually my DH puts the toddler to bed while I nurse the baby to sleep downstairs but lately he has been SUCKING at it. He lies in bed with the toddler until she falls asleep and I can't stand this! Plus it takes forever. So lately I have been trying to run up and put the toddler down quickly and then we all watch tv downstairs w/the baby then all go to bed around 11 pm.
For Madelyn: If I'm nursing Liam, then DH takes Maddie to bed. Otherwise, I generally volunteer because it's some extra time I get with her.
Our bedtime routine is pretty easy, though. It's pajamas on, brush teeth, kiss everyone goodnight, lay down in bed, nursery ryhme, prayer, lights out.
For Liam: I swaddle him, nurse him to sleep, and lay him in his rock-n-play.
Just an FYI the rock n play is only for supervised naps, your baby shouldn't be sleeping in it overnight (or even napping in it while you are in another room). The sides are not breathable, and if they are old enough to turn their head they are old enough to suffocate.
Now that the girls are older, I give them their bath together while DH does the dishes. Then it's story time, with all 4 of us in the girls' room. I often end up nursing at that point, so DH usually takes over. Then DD1 kisses her sister and her daddy good night. DH takes DD2 while I tuck in DD1. DD2 usually goes to bed about half an hour after her big sister.
Except for bath time, this has pretty much always been our routine with 2u2.

When DD was under a year, I would put her to bed first while DS was watching a show on the laptop that I would move to his room.
Now, they bathe together, and then pajamas/story all in DS's room. We both kiss him goodnight, and then DD and I go to her room and she goes to bed.
H travels a lot so I usually do it all by myself. When he is home, we just do the same thing with all four of us.

Well thank you It's nice to hear positive comments when so many of us " 2 under 2ers" get crazy looks and mind boggling rude remarks!
So true. If I get "you are crazy" for having three small children one more time I might lose it on someone.
