TTC after 35

Aaarrrggg-let's throw another wrench into things, shall we universe?

DH called earlier, completely stressed out because he has to travel to Guatemala and Mexico for 10 days-get this, from June 10th to June 20th. Right exactly when I would most likely be retrieving and transferring if this cycle goes according to plan.  Not to mention that we were planning on being away from the 18th to the 23rd, but that is the least of the issues.

I told him not to worry, we would be able to freeze his sperm if we have to and then confirmed it with my nurse, so while it's not ideal for him to be out of town, we can still make this happen.

He hasn't had to travel for work in about 4 years. This trip is for a project that he has been championing and it would not look great if he bailed on it, especially since we won't know until late next week what my follicles are doing, if anything.

He is like "well this is our family and it's important, but yes, work is important too, not as important as our family". I agree, but since my body can't be relied upon for anything, I think he just needs to schedule it and go.

I'm thinking MelleTX as an example of success with frozen sperm and clinging to that for hope...

Can things just go as planned for once?

TTC since 3/2010. Me 41, DH-49. After 3 years, 6 IUIs and several IVFs we have finally have our beautiful baby girl, born on 11/7/13.

Re: Aaarrrggg-let's throw another wrench into things, shall we universe?

  • Well that just is the suckiest luck around... But frozen sperm works pretty well these days-- MelleTX is a fine example of that!

I think it's FABULOUSLY AWESOME that your DH is so concerned about prioritizing his family over his work-- even with it being his own project coming to fruition. Maybe this is just the Universe confirming his priorities are in the right place before giving you a baby!

  • I read somewhere that frozen is just as successful as fresh.  I don't know where it was so I can't link it.  I am sorry that you have this extra stress.

My retrieval is scheduled for June 13 so we should be cycling around the same time.

  • I am thinking there must be a plan that I am not in on! :)

It's so funny, he is so stressed about this and I really am not. Other than it not being an ideal situation, they have the technology to do this, so we are fortunate enough to have access to it.

I am extremely grateful that he is giving it this importance, if he were just saying "oh well" I would be upset, so I do realize that.

I just spoke to him again and he is really overwhelmed by a few things at work so I told him we will work this out, it should not add to the stress.

It's such a bummer that he will be out of the country, but fantastic that he is so concerned and really does want to be here.  But at least you have the option to freeze some of his boys.  It'd be worse if you had to fly down there to BD at the right time, or skip out on a cycle altogether.

    Oh good luck with everything.
