NPR: can someone tell me about ...

a Catholic wake & service? A friend's father passed away this week & I would like to know what to expect. Thank you, as always, my helpful Nesties.

    Wake is like a visitation at funeral home.  Whether it's open or closed casket, it's up to the family.  A priest may come and say a prayer and follow up with a Hail Marry. 

    The Catholic Funeral is similar to a Catholic mass on a Sunday.  The Homily discusses the person's life and typically, there is a communion for everyone.  It'll last about an hour.  HTH.
