Alien Invasion - Induction Story, Yeah...I Caved

So, my little Alien still didn't come out on his own. I went in Tuesday for my scheduled induction. Henry James was born at 1:20pm, 7lbs14oz and 20.5" long. He has almost no hair, which is funny for a Hispanic baby, and his super pale instead of the red the other babies in the nursery were.

The pitocin got started around 7:00am and was pretty mild. I could feel the contractions, but they weren't too bad. I remembered telling my mom, this is a breeze! I knew they'd get worse, but it wasn't the horror story I'd heard. I settled back and napped the 2 minutes between contractions. Ha! Stupid me!

My OB came in and was a little concerned about the way I wasn't feeling the contractions. She checked me, and perked up when I was 5-6 after 2 hours on pit. Then she broke my water. That's when it all went down hill. Within a few minutes, te contractions went from uncomfortable to horrible. I went from feeling then in my lower tummy to feeling them in my back and hips. Back labor truly sucks donkeys! Still, I wanted to see how long I could go. I kind of went off into lala land, but then got jerked out of it by even worse contractions. When it got where I couldn't remember my name during contractions, and my blood pressure had skyrocketed, I knew it was time to ask for pain relief. They were out of Nubain, and I didn't want morphine. I got the epidural.

2.5 hours after rupturing my membranes, I was 7-8cm, but he was still really high. Within 5 minutes of the epidural, he had already started moving down. Now, IDK about what's supposed to happen, but I still felt a LOT with the epidural. The only difference? No back labor! Pft, I could handle these contractions. I tried to rest a bit. Soon though, I was feeling them in my back again, and it was as bad as before the epidural. Wouldn't it figure I'd have a failed one? Ugh!

The nurse came in and sent another dose of the med through...and then said, I bet you're complete. Sure enough, the epidural hadn't failed. In 45 minutes, I'd gone from 7-8 and -3 to 10 and +3. There was a mad scramble to get my OB in, and he was out in 4 pushes.

But...remember that dose? I kind of wish she'd had that thought before she hit the button. I could easily have handled the pain knowing I was delivering in 20 minutes. Alas... I spent the entire delivery totally numb. I can laugh about it now because it's funny. Feel the entire labor and missthe delivery. Doh! I don't regret it. I still got my high. And, I got a lot of laughs out of my experience. "Push Sarah!...That's not a push. Whoa!!! STOP PUSHING...Sarah, STOP!" and then comments like, "Pick up your hips." I have hips? "Can you lift your bum?" Um, nope! Or, "Um, oops." "What's wrong?"  "I accidentally moved my leg and I can't put it back?"  A

So, it wasn't what I planned, but my little guy arrived safe and sound, and i got a funny birth story to tell out of it!
