TTC After a Loss

call the guiness book of records! NTTCALR

I picked blackberries with DH yesterday evening & am now COVERED in chiggers. (for those of you who dont know what a chigger is its a teeny tiny little parasite that bites you then hangs on for dear life. very common in the south & EXTREMELY itchy!) I must have wandered into a colony of them b/c I think I could break a record with the # of bites I have. whats bad is that they like to get in creases on your body-backs of knees, um-crotch area. they aer even all over my stomache & butt cheeks & that covers the majority of my body lol. I'm on the verge of being miserable.

So what do you do? Do they just fall off or do you have to pick them off like a tick??

you are supposed to take a bath in bleach water so I did this morning. it didnt help. one home remedy is preparation h. it closes the wound & takes the itching away. then cover it with clear finger nail polish to "smother" the little chigger. I going to the drug store before work to get that stuff

they are so tiny you can barely see them so you have to smother them to death with clear fingernail polish. I would need a paint brush to coat every single one of them.

I hope you don't have to go anywhere today, I have this mental image of you walking around scratching you butt and cootchie all day!

I have to go to work at a wedding dress shop. your mental image is probably what I will be doing behind a dress rack all day lol

I would definitely call and see if they can give you something--it sounds pretty extreme.  I know they can give animals diphendhydramine (benadryl) shots, so I don't know why they couldn't give one to humans...worth a phone call I would think :(

it is pretty extreme. I've never had a case like this before. I can get a mosquito bite & it makes a little red dot & goes away & never itches. my DH has ZERO chigger bites & he was in the same stuff I was. I feel pretty dumb b/c I should have used some kind of bug repellant but the mosquitoes were not out so I didnt think about it.

Chiggers are horrible. I haven't had them in years, but they used to make a product called Chigger-Rid that does the same thing as the clear nail polish but has some other medicine in it, maybe to stop the itch? Good luck. I'm itchy just reading this post! Sad

This sounds horrible.  Remind me never to go to the south.  I don't think I could handle knowing there are several small bugs crawling all over me.  I would want to jump out of my skin.

I am sorry you are going through this.  I hope your doctor can help give you some relief.

God I hate chiggers!! I'm sorry the clear nail polish isn't working. I'd either call the doctor or take some benadryl. Maybe even get the benadryl that you can spread over your skin. They make a clear one that looks like hand sanitizer that I think works better than the cream.

And I have a funny story about chiggers. My first roommate in college was from Manhattan and we started at Indiana University in August 2001 so obviously, she was really upset after the 9/11 attacks. (Her family members were all okay, though she did have a couple of friends who lost their parents.) She ended up coming to a family reunion with me because she didn't want to be alone that weekend. The reunion was in a park and she ended up with some chigger bites.

When she asked what they were, my 12 year old cousin told her chiggers were little bugs that burrow under your skin and that she needed to put nail polish on them to kill them. Then the little brat told her that they explode when they die causing pockmarks on your skin. She freaked out and then asked my uncle (who works for the forestry department) if it was true and the jerk told her it was. Oy! It took weeks before I could convince her they were just messing with her.

bahahaha this made me crack up.

I went to walmart, freds, family dollar & dollar general looking for this. apparently every body has chiggers b/c everywhere I went was out! I got aveeno oatmeal bath, preparation h (it actually helps) caladryl lotion & took some benadryl b/c I guess I'm allergic. now I'm getting a rash probably from scratching which I know only makes it worse but it feels so good lol.
