So I found out today that I am having a girl!
I had already started my registry but now that I know gender I can look at clothing and the likes. My questions are:
Do I put other sizes on there besides newborn or just assume people will see what I like and find stuff similar in larger sizes?
How important are shoes in the first few stages?
If I do put stuff on there in bigger sizes, is it important to look at all seasons or just the two around babies due date?
FTM here... so many questions! Thanks!!
Re: Registry question
Yeah, avoid shoes...they're pointless. There are socks that look like shoes that are really cute though if you like that look.
I didn't really put clothes on my registry at all because I know people will buy them on their own (heck, they have started buying them already) and I'd rather take the opportunity to list the more useful things I need.
If you do want to put clothes on there, you should definitely think about the seasons...if your baby is due in September, then register for NB and 0-3 stuff that will be autumny and warm, not bathing suits and shorts. And you wouldn't want a bunch of wintery 9-mo clothes. You know?

We are pregnant with our second child, and we had a girl the first time....so here's my advice:
1. It is very hard to locate clothes that are on someone's registry. I'd stick to Carter's onesies and pants in sizes newborn, 0-3 months, and 6 months. People will buy you onesies either way, but putting them on the registry helps people know what's already been bought. My child was average weight at birth and only wore newborn clothes for about 4 weeks. The Gerber onesies are less expensive but are not as soft and have a snug fit that makes them not really true to size.
2. People love to buy clothes for baby girls. They also like to choose those clothes themselves since girl clothes are so cute. Probably 80% of the gifts we received were clothing, which was fine with us. We didn't need to purchase clothing ourselves until our child was 9 months old. So just remember that if you have a couple of showers, you will likely receive a lot of clothing. Some of the stuff people buy is not practical (dressy dresses in size newborn with scratchy lace or buttons on the back will probably not be worn...few people take a newborn somewhere where they'd wear that and it isn't comfortable), so keep the tags on anything you're not sure you want to put on a tiny baby. We exchanged some of the non-practical clothing for things we needed.
3. Shoes are not important until your child is trying to pull up, stand, and walk. The first time we put shoes on our daughter, she was 9 months old. If you try to put them on a younger child, they will just come off, aggravate your child, and get lost. For little girls, they make cute socks and tights with a mary jane print on the feet. These were our favorite for when we wanted our child to be dressed up.
4. If you want more kids, don't register for pink/purple big items like the stroller, carseat, swing, etc. We're having a boy this time and I'm glad our big items are neutral. You most likely won't be receiving many gifts for your second or third child, so be smart about what you'll want to use for years to come.
Congratulations on your baby girl!
Most people say not to bother putting clothes on. I did put a few adorable things I like on there hoping people might take cues. I also picked out 2 pairs of shoes because she will be itty bitty during the winter months and I think the extra coverage on her feet would be good. I found cute little pink ugg knock offs at buy buy baby and some other shoes that are more like slippers.
If people don't buy the clothes or shoes they are on the registry and I can use the completion coupon!
Congrats on your baby girl!! I'm a FTM also and having a girl too. I didn't register for any clothes because my "mom" friends told me that people will automatically buy a ton of clothes, especially for a girl. Plus, I registered at Babies R Us and an outfit is $20 when there are stores in my neighborhood where you could get 3 outfits for $25, so I felt guilty about that.
I don't think shoes are that important in the beginning, and they have those socks that look like shoes that are so cute. Shoes are definitely more for show than anything.
FWIW..I've read that you should (or could) register for stuff up until the baby is 1.
Good luck with everything!!!
Absolutely do not put clothes on your registry. However, I did register for 2-3 halo sleep sacks so that I could choose one of each size and have that be it. People will buy clothes regardless (thankfully my family/friends paired clothes with necessities), so you are better served to choose those items.
Shoes are pointless, but we loved the socks that looked like shoes. I would avoid newborn clothes. DD was 8lbs (two weeks early) and wore one newborn onesie. By one week she couldn't wear any of them. She was out of 0-3 months after a few weeks too. Per my mom, I returned anything less than 3 months and it was absolutely the right call for us. Obviously every baby is different, but I wouldn't remove tags on small sizes until you see if the baby is really early or fairly small.
Have fun, and don't get swept into the "must haves!" Most of them are usually "closet fillers" :-)
Ditto this. I've never understood all the gender specific prints for big ticket items. I have friends trying to decide between spending the money on new stuff or putting their boy in a pink car seat...that was an easy problem to avoid...
