If you use ready to feed formula

We just switched to Alimentum and the pharmacy only gave us ready to feed. I used to bring powder and room temperature water when going out. What can I do with the ready to feed? Once open it needs to stay cold. Ds will not drink it cold. How do you warm ready to feed bottles when you are out?

The beauty of ready to feed is they are kept at room temp (until opened) so you just open and poor in a bottle... No need to warm it. I only use them when I'm out because they are so convenient

We use Alimentum for our kids under 1 too. We have RTF cans that are 8 oz at a time, so when they get to drinking 8 oz, we just bring an empty bottle and a can with us, then open when they want to drink it.

But until then (or never, like DD never drank that much), we make 10 ish bottles at a time in whatever amount they drink (like ten bottles that are 4 oz each or whatever), and put them in the fridge. At home, we use a kettle to boil water, then put the water in a mug and the bottle in the mug and warm for 30 seconds or so (test before feeding!).

For going out, we have a lunchbox that keeps cold bottles cold, so we bring bottles in that. Then we have a plastic container that we bring with the diaper bag as well, and use whatever hot water is available (to warm for 30 seconds before feeding). Sometimes there's boiling water available at a restaurant, sometimes the "hot" water is just from a bathroom sink tap.

My son is on the ready to feed alimentum too and we make bottles up and put them in a cooler in the car and we bought a bottle warmer that plugs into the cigarette lighter outlet to warm up the bottles when we are on the go.  Does your insurance cover the alimentum?  If so, did a doctor have to write a prescription for you?  I would love for mine to be covered haha

Tommee Tippee makes a travel bottle warmer. It works great.

We were using Alimentum.  For us, a feeding is usually only 4 onces.  1 can has 8 ounces.  When we know we're out for awhile, I'll bring a can, 2 empty bottles and an ice pack.  I open then can when he's hungry and pour 4 ounces into the 1 of the bottles and feed it to him at room temperature, then I fill the 2nd bottle with the left over 4 ounces and put it back in the diaper bag with an ice pack to be used later when I can warm it up for him.  I'm in Canada, and Alimentum only comes in ready to serve.  If you miss the powder though, you might want to switch to Nutramigen (the Enfamil equivalent).  Nutramigen is available in both ready to serve and powder, so you can use whatever is most convenient for you.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I think I will keep powder on hand for when we go out because he will drink them room temperature, just not cold.

We get a prescription sent to the pharmacy and our insurance pays for it.  He just started on it yesterday and I am hoping this works because the poor baby is miserable.

Personally, I would not go back and forth between powder and RTF. I think they are a slightly different mix and might make things worse. I'd pick one and stick to it.

Warming to room temp on the go is not hard, just find a bathroom with a warm-water tap (which all sinks have) and warm in a container.
