Ferber Nap help

We did the Ferber method with DS a couple months ago and everything went great. He went from barely napping at all to napping two 1.5 hour naps a day (and from getting up every 45 min to practically sttn). The last few days he will NOT nap. He just screams when I put him down. I don't know what happened. I can't take him screaming twice a day at naptime but at the same time I don't want to lose the naps we worked so hard for!

We went away for the night last weekend and my in-laws rocked him to sleep for every nap, and he's also hitting some major milestones (rolling, moving towards crawling etc). Should I just stick it out with our regular routine and hope he re-trains or do you think I need to try something new? I'm so confused - I thought we had it down! (nights are still OK although he is waking very early!).

Retrain. From our experience, as well as many friends, anytime there is an illness, travelling or other substantial set back, retraining is usually needed. What you'll probably find is that he gets it in only a day or two, instead of the week it may have taken initially. Especially if your IL's rocked him. Our friend's have a DD who is nearly 2 and she was rocked to sleep when they went away in March by the grandparents, and even at that age she started refusing naps, after months and months of going down great. It's bound to happen. GL, hope it goes quickly for you!

  • Retrain.  We had to retrain at night last week because the previous week LO was teething so I would get up with her at night.  Of course...she started breaking another 2 teeth this week...ugh.  It's totally worth it though.
