CCRM or Cornell?

My husband and I have been thinking about what our next step should be.  I have done 2 IVF cycles at 2 different clinics.  We moved to SIRM to get some immune testing done to rule that out (since I have had 9 early losses).  Nothing showed up in the immune testing, so there is no real answer as to why I keep miscarrying and we look great on paper.

We decided that before we make the final decision to move on to a gestational carrier, we should probably see the best of the best.  Travel and cost aside, in all of your research and in your opinion, which clinic would be better?  I trust your opinions!  Thanks.

After 1 IUI, 3 IVF's with CGH/CCS testing, 10 early miscarriages, and lots of tears and frustration, we are moving on to Domestic Infant Adoption!  We are so excited to see what the future holds.

  • Ok they are totally different style clinics.  If u want to try w ur own eggs, I'd pay opp and see dr Davis at Cornell. He's the best there is for working w ur own eggs if ur dor or have egg quality issues.  CCRM pushes WAY more people to de.  Cornell will never push u there, if u want to keep trying.

That being said, Cornell is not a believer in immune issues or pgd.  Ccrm pushes  pgd.  So it depends on what u think may be the cause of ur mc's.   Since u already have done cgh, and that's not it...issue consider Cornell.  Granted I'm biased.

I truly believe in Cornell.  They are nonprofit, and not out to cycle people for a buck. Their lab is amazing, and they absolutely know what they are doing.

Thanks Vanessa!  I am not DOR and no one seems to think I have an egg quality issue, even though that was a thought a year or two ago....I've lost count.  I seem to be an enigma to most doctors.  I am definitely not pushing for anymore immune issues since the doc at SIRM believes that if I had a problem there it would have shown up on my labwork.  I am just confused. :(

  • U could consult w my re (spandor.fer).  He's a great dr and a great guy. He takes insurance, so the consult wouldn't be a large cost (if they take ur plan).

Maybe see what he has to say. I know he won't say immune or cgh.  So I'd def get some other kind of answer.  Hugs!!!

You cannot switch REs once you consult. I believe dr B found issues with worms that were not apparent when she was not pregnant. I hate all these choices and all of them being expensive. I mean, it would be so nice if money were no option, but none of these are a sure thing. But I guess it is very nice to actually have choices.

My impression from c.ornell was to keep on going until the right embryo presented itself. They are conservative and straightforward but very good at that approach. You can see if the phone consult for c.crm is free. I know it is for NYS residents and it varies by state. Good luck with your decision.

that is true.  my immune b/w came back normal with both the SIRM panel and dr. B's extensive panel.  we decided to add some immune treatment to this cycle (prednisone and neupogen) and i really believe that is why i am still pregnant despite 2 bleeds.  when dr. B ran immune panel after BFP my nk cells were really high and stayed that way after intralipids and then i added IVIG infusions twice (w/ immune b/w after each treatment).  dr. b was happy with everything around 15/16w and i graduated.

honestly, if anyone is going to figure out your RPL it's dr. B.  he is worth every penny IMO.   if you have ?'s please feel free to shoot me an email.

i knew i couldn't move on if i didn't do everything possible to address my losses.  i cycled with dr. b 2 times trying 2 different treatments and we got it right this last IVF.

in terms of cor.nell and ccrm, i was a patient at cor.nell prior to SIRM and did a phone consult w/ CCRM.  cornell is a great clinic but aren't going to delve into why you keep having losses.  they are great at what they do but don't buy into immune issues, etc.  dr. b has lots of clients that consult with him and go to cor.nell with out telling their RE's.

CCRM doesn't give me the best feeling and it seems they also didn't want to do anything about my losses other than CGH testing embryos.

It's been a long journey. TTC since 9/06. multiple IUI's and IVF's and 4 m/c's. IVF#3 = BFP, twins, induced at 34w6d due to baby b passing away (no explanation). Delivered on 35w1d, Baby A - baby girl, and Baby B - baby boy, our little angel.

  • Coming out of lurkdom...

We cycled at CCRM and had success. We loved it there. Everything my doctors told me to expect here locally out of an IVF cycle I far exceeded in Colorado. (For example being told here I'd never make it to a 5dt bc we wouldn't have enough good embryos to do so, when in CO we had so many that not only did we do a 5dt of two embies but I also had three that made it to freeze.) That's just one example.

Our phone consult was free and I loved Dr. S.urrey. Friends of ours who live in CO (and who we stayed with while out there) cycled with him too--twice--and now have twins and currently a singleton on the way. This was with IUI, but while we were out there we met two other couple friends of theirs who cycled with IVF and had success as well.

I have nothing to compare them to but just wanted to share my good experience. Everything they did was super tailored to how I was responding in that moment. My nurse was amazing too--we still keep in email contact.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do!

Thanks for the opinions everyone!  I am still researching and figuring out what is best for us.  I am not sure what is the best thing for us right now, but I am sure I will figure it out.  All I do know is that is it unfair to even have to think about this and spend all this time and money.

At this point, I don't have any faith that there is an answer as to why I keep miscarrying, but I hope that maybe, just maybe, we will find a way to make this work in the end.  Again, thank you!  I really appreciate it!

  • I very much appreciated you asking this question. I have a phone interview with CCRM in July, which is free, and I am interested in seeing what they say. I am very different than you in the sense that I have NEVER gotten pregnant at all, so I am not dealing with losses just all failed procedures. I do have DOR and trying to find the best clinic for me and my husband. NO CLUE how we will pay for anything but just wanted to get the ball rolling. Thank you all for your opinions I very much appreciate them too.
