After reading the article that someone posted a few days ago, I'm considering trying it. FWIW, I haven't had any previous laundry issues and I'm currently using Tide.
I think I was the one that posted the article you're referring to and in that case, yes, I've obviously ditched my (cold) pre-rinse.
It made absolutely no difference in how clean my diapers got. I use Tide (and Gain powder most recently) and never have stink, buildup, rashes, or any other issues. You could always try it and if you don't like the results, go back to using the pre-rinse. FWIW, I think using the right/good detergent makes more of a difference than doing a cold pre-rinse.

Pre-rinse makes all the difference in the world to me. Admittedly though I'm not the best at scraping diapers entirely clean before I put them in the pail so that has something to do with it.
I tried skipping the rinse for a bit with no success.
I've started skipping the extra rinse at the end (there's already two in my normal cycle) and I haven't noticed a difference there at all.

Maybe I should add that we've started solids and the few poopy diapers we get are rinsed pretty thoroughly with the sprayer or are ploppable and sprayed with Bac-out.
Sorry, it's not clicky. Let me know if it doesn't work! It's hard to do links on my phone.
Am I reading this correctly that you shouldn't do a prerinse only if cold is your only option, because it does more damage than good (setting oils into the fabrics)? In other words, continue on with warm pre-rinses ...
I ditched my post-rinse (the extra rinse) when I switched to soap nuts.
The pre-rinse makes sense to me. It gets extra water in the machine by weighing down the diapers. It gets rid of a bunch of nastiness - which isn't really oily, so I'm not sure I get the sunscreen comparison. Pee is pretty water soluble.
I am a if it ain't broke - don't fix it kind of girl. So far the warm prewash/rinse is working for us. Granted I don't set the water usage for full with only 15 diapers or so because it seems like a bit of a waste. With a small load - I set to medium for the pre rinse. So far - we have perfection. Knocking on wood, crossing fingers, throwing salt over my left shoulder...

I do a warm pre-wash so it agitates along with rinsing out the yucky. I have seen the water that comes out from that cycle and it is nasty so I plan to leave keep doing it. I don't like the idea of diapers washing in that filthy water.
I've also never had issues so I'm hesitant to screw around with my wash routine.
Ok, so I'm not the only one still rinsing! I wasn't sure if I was missing out on something... As much as I'd like to simplify my wash routine, I agree with the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" mantra.
