June 2011 Moms

cassoppea

LO HATES brusing his teeth.  So I dont even bother with it.  I know I am a terrible mom.  Any suggestions on how to make this less of a fight.  I asked the pedi and she said its just one of those things they hate that you have to do.

LO is so so so strong it is hard for me to hold him down.  Please help me!

Re: cassoppea

  • I'm not Cassoppea, but I wanted to let you know I struggled a lot with DD. I ended up finally getting her to let me by pretending there were animals in her mouth. I'd say "Ohh ohh ohh" (like a monkey) and then go "Is there a monkey in there?! We'd better get it out!" and just keep going with different animals. She thought it was so silly and she loved telling me more animals to do as she got older.

  • Yes creativity!  Especially when they are older.  Avery has been particularly resistant lately so I know how you feel.  Now, I've had more success with putting her on the floor with her head between my legs so she can't move her head.  I put my leg over her lower body to keep her reasonably still and one hand on her hands while the other brushes.  This has worked best and I can get it done in like 20 seconds.

ETA: And you are NOT a terrible mom.  Please don't think that.

I copied my post from the other thread:

Any soft bristled brush labeled for younger kids is fine.  You just want it small enough to fit in your LO's mouth.  It doesn't matter at this point whether it's infant or toddler.

This is what I use, but only because it's the one we use in our office so I get them for free!

Sorry just get back to reading these responses.

Thanks for the distracting idea and the hold down technique ladies.  I will try both.  Lamar loves it when I sing (off tune) so maybe that can calm him.  I will order an infant/toddler toothbrush b/c the finger one I have is crap!
