post mc check up - ?

I already had a post d&c check up, where the dr did a physical exam and said everything seemed fine... but I've seen in other posts, one most recently just below, that women have had a check up further out, a little closer to TTC again to make sure everything's cleared out...

I was wondering if I should request another check up to get the official thumbs up, or green light, or if the check up I had just 1 week after d&c was it, and we just need to follow the waiting period outlined by the dr...

I had my D&C follow up 6 weeks later...it felt like soooooo long to wait. And I didn't even have an exam, it was like OB: "is everything ok" ME: "yup, I think so" OB: Okay, call me back if you dont get your period in the next one or two months".

I would say (and this is just my opinion) that in a few weeks if something feels wrong, call back, if not I don't think there's a need. Also charting helped me see what was going on with my cycle and that there was actaully something wrong. My chart help her feel more confident that I'm having a hormonal imbalance and not something that went wrong with the D&C.

After my first d&c, I saw my doctor 2 weeks later and it was basically a very quick vaginal exam where she pronounced me "good to go" aka everything was healed and we could TTC after one cycle of AF.

Now that I have had a second loss, I am going to make sure that this appointment includes more Q&A. 

If everything seems ok with you and your doctor saw no issues, I would just follow her TTC advice on how long to wait.

I would say this is up to you.  I did not have a follow-up appointment for my D&C.  I am only two weeks out but if my levels keep dropping I think I am ok.  I don't really feel like I need a follow-up.  But if you feel like this is something you need or want, you should ask for one.

I was technically "done" with follow ups, but started with HEAVY bleeding and large clots again.  I had been down to brown/mucousy bleeding and my betas were 16.  I actually had only seen her in the office to talk about symtpoms and discuss my beta levels and u/s results.  I didn't have a D&C, I used cytotec so I think there may have been a little more follow-up involved b/c they cant be 100% sure everything is gone and out without testing etc.  So, around 2 weeks after cytotec my betas had been 98 and my u/s was good so we were only doing blood work and discussing on the phone.
I only had another appt, and exam actually, b/c of the increased heavy bleeding.  We think it was AF's first arrival.  The biopsy was to confirm all the tissue from pregnancy was gone since my case was very unusual; normally it isnt considered AF until you've had 2 weeks of NO bleeding.  I'm a freak of nature

I didn't have a D&C but had 3 natural m/c (one with the assistance of cytotec).

After my 1st m/c I had an u/s to confirm the m/c and a follow up appointment a week or two later.  After my 2nd m/c I had a follow up appt a month later. Both were more just Q&A appointments then anything.  I wasn't seen other than that.

With this last m/c, I was seen 9 days after taking cytotec.  Again this was mostly a Q&A appointment in which we discussed my recurrent losses.  I went back about 2-3 weeks later after I had some basic testing done.  Again Q&A appointment.  They scheduled me again for a month later, however I cancelled the appointment b/c I started seeing a RE.  I really have no idea what the 3rd appointment was for. At the second appointment they ordered a few more tests but basically told me my losses were "bad luck."

I will also add, after my first 2 losses, my betas were monitored until they were below 5.  With my 3rd m/c my OB didn't even request betas until I specifically asked about them.  They were checked once after that appoinment (they were 18 at 9 days post m/c) and were not checked again.  Every doctor is different with how they monitor you have m/c.  All of my losses were handled at the same practice yet very differently.  I would recommend at the least you have your betas monitored to insure they are decreasing as they should.

I am very sorry for your loss and hope your stay here is very short.

Just wanted to add, I was supposed to schedule a f/u u/s between the second and third f/u appointments after this loss.  Again, I didn't schedule it b/c I had an appointment with a RE and they did an u/s there.  Plus my betas had dropped significantly and were very low at that point.

Thanks ladies - they're all really helpful answers... I think I'm just gonna see how the next few weeks go, just temp to see if I ovulate, and see how AF is when/if it arrives...

if AF doesn't arrive after a decent amt of time, then I'll call Dr... thanks again!
