My sister's gallbladder surgery was $53K !

She told me to guess and kept telling me "higher." My jaw hit the floor when she finally told me. Thankfully she has a really good plan and only has to pay $900 or so. Damn I'm thankful for my health.

    That is just absurd.  There is NO reason for it to be 53k either, it's just sad.

    I had an infection (from a blister, I kid you not) on my foot that spread to my leg, and I spent four hours in the hospital...the insurance statements keep rolling in, and it was close to 10K.

     

    For some antibiotics and four hours.  Insanity.  My "surgery" included them taking a sample from my blister.  And cost $1700.

    It is just insane!?

    when S was in the ICU in feb for 5 days her bill was over 125K. ?thank GOD we have great insurance! healthcare costs are just out of control!!!

    How is your sister doing now? better I hope! :)?

    My guess is that the hospital and doctors will be "lucky" if they see $10k.  They will never get near what they bill.

    She's much better. I felt so bad for her she was in so much pain and was throwing up everything that crossed her mouth. Thanks for asking.

    I agree it's crazy. I can't imagine people who have major healthcare problems.

    Wow!  My 13 day stay with pancreatitis and gall bladder removal was 100,000.  I thought that was crazy!

    That doesn't surprise me-Emerson's six month check up appointment was almost 600.00-no problems.  It was just the check up and vax.  AND her second dose of the flu shot today was 50.00.  I had to pay for my own flu shot this year and it was 20 bucks as CVS.  Why would two doses of the flu vax cost 100.00 for a baby?  I'm bewildered.....

    It's insane.
