Jogging strollers

Is anyone using this with their LO yet?  I know some strollers say 6 months, but is that if you are using it for running?  I was wondering how it would be for walks at this age.  I am going today to get the Baby Trend stroller on sale at Target:)

Re: Jogging strollers

  • I think the 6 month thing is just if you plan on running.  Otherwise it is just like using a normal stroller.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

I bought the baby trend jogging stroller with the car seat.

  • I have the baby trend stroller with the carrier.... I use it for running and have not had any issues.... I am still trying to get pass the awkwardness of holding the handle though.. I have to do it one handed and alternate... that is my only issue with it. DS loves it though and it does put him to sleep!

We take our baby trend for walks daily and we have taken it for a jog here and there. We just keep C in his infant seat. I don't know why there would be a 6m rule?

we have the Baby Trend as well, but I can't stand it. I actually got a non-jogging stroller instead. I didn't like how upright DD was in the carseat when it was in the stroller, and its too big/bulky/heavy. We usually put DD in the k'tan if we're going for a walk anyways...

  • I THINK the 6 month thing could be for sitting in the stroller regularly. Rather than sitting the infant seat in the stroller. We tried putting DD in the regular baby trend stroller without her seat and she just sunk down. We have a thing to try to cradle her in a little more (those pillow thingys) so maybe that will work better. Otherwise - I say as long as they are snugly strapped in - why not jog?

  • Our doctor said we could put LO in our jogging stroller, and she encouraged us to take him on smooth roads still, no trial running yet. I would encourage you if you want to run a lot to make sure you get a good jogging stroller because it will be a smoother ride for the baby and easier for you to push.

  • I had a Baby Trend with DD and I HATED that thing with a passion. I thought it was extremely dangerous for running. If the wheel was locked, I couldn't turn or maneuver well, and if it was unlocked it wobbled so horribly that it would make me trip. I went round and round with Baby Trend about it before finally unloading it at a garage sale. It was fine for walking--definitely NOT for jogging.

Now we have a Phil & Ted double. I love it. I've jogged with both kids in it (DS strapped in his infant carseat) on a smooth surface trail by our house.

  • The 6-8 months from what I've researched is because their neck and back muscles still developing. They can't take the shock in their bodies on a rough terrain. I think the manufactures put these ages because they can say its safe for 4 months on smooth terrain but then you have all the people who will read it as its safe to use at 4 months, go on rough terrain, something will happen to baby and then they attempt to sue because they didn't understand or the directions were confusing. I think  legally its easier to just make a line in the sand that is easy to understand and if people go against it they can't go after the manufacturer with a plausiable case.

This is just my guess :-)

  • I was told by my pediatrician that as long as you have the car seat adapter and neck support you could jog with you baby after 8 weeks.  I make sure the front wheel is locked to keep the ride as smooth ad possible.  My son loves our runs!
