Stares to one side

My DD stares to her left side constantly. Its hard to get her to turn her head towards  a sound. I know she can hear because she startles at loud sounds. She does look at me and this week she has been smiling constantly. Why is she staring to the left? Is this normal baby behavior?could her eye sight be bad on one side? DH and I have bad eye sight.what do u think?

Re: Stares to one side

  • I saw a post like this before, and I believe it has something to do with the neck muscles.  My pedi asked if DD was looking to both sides at her 2 mo appt.  If not, I've heard they do physical therapy to strengthen the muscles.  Definitely ask the doctor.

Is her head turned or just her eyes? DS always had his head turned to one side. Our pedi said we need to work on having him look the other way and could even "prop" his head up with a rolled up blanket or something. (just make sure you always have an eye on them) A flat spot will form on their head if you don't make them turn their heads.

Her head is turned to her left side. In her car seat, when she sleeps, etc. I try to turn her head gently, but she turns it back right away. I could use a blanket but she might turn her face into it. We have an apt on June 4th so I will ask the pedi then. Thanks.

  • Mine constantly looked to the right and slept on the right too. Now that part of her head is flat. I exercise her neck constantly now (push head all the way to left and hold down for 10 seconds) and am continually pushing it to the left as she sleeps. She is now getting better movement, but her head still looks awful. Praying we dont need a helmet :(
