Mucinex??

I have read several ladies who have gotten a BFP recently say they took Mucinex. Maybe it's because I'm new to TTC or just a silly question, but why does it help with TTC? And how often and where in your cycle should you take it?

The active ingredient, Guaifenesin, helps thin out mucus in your body.  Some people who have too thick of cervical mucus, can benefit from Guaifenesin, but it is not a proven thing.  It is listed in a lot of the suggested getting pregnant books on this site.  As far as I know Mucinex has changed their ingredients and Guaifenesin is not the only listed active ingrediant anymore.  Guaifenesin has to be the only active ingredient other wise sometimes it is a reverse effect.  I have seen many store brand type mucinex type medicine list Guaifenesin as the only active ingredient.

Supposedly improves cervical mucus, I tried it when we first started TTC, didn't conceive in case you're wondering if it helps conceive. You take it after period up till O and 2 days afterward, TCOYF book recommends 200mg 3 times a day...

Make sure you take the regular one and not the DX one.  That one from what i hear dries you up more then you already were.

Walmart (if you live near one) has a huge bottle of the one with guaifenesin only for $3. It's "equate" brand, box labeled "Tussin".

I've tried it, along with green tea for two cycles...while I did witness an increase in EWCM, I would say just drinking more H2O worked must better!

I've read that Vitamin B 6 works as well (50-100mg).  While I am not pregnant, I have noticed a change in my cervical mucous around ovulation.

i took it a couple hours before BD..close and during Ovulation

This. Mucinex had worked for me (2 successful cycles while taking it), but you can always use pre-seed if you want to go the non-medicated route.

I tried it for one cycle (Kroger brand mucus relief; guaifenesin only active ingredient), and I definitely saw increased CM, but it didn't result in pregnancy for me. I'm not 100% sure the increase in CM was from the pills for from all the extra water I drank while taking the pills. I just moved on to month 8 today (boo!), and I've decided that this month I'm throwing everything in the book at getting pregnant, so I'm going to try it again. Obviously, I know it's not the magic pill that it can seem when you Google it and everyone swears the first month they used it they got pregnant, but I'm so fed up with TTC that I'm trying everything this month.
