clogged duct..possible breast infection

Happy Memorial Day girls!

I am a FTM to a 7 and 1/2 week old who is exclusively bf. Friday night I noticed a hard area on the the top of my right breast that did not soften after feedings. From reading my bf book, I know this is a clogged duct and have been following the advice the book said, but its not improving. I am achy with chills in the evening only. No temp but I am thinking it may be a breast infection. Has this happened to anyone else and how long before it goes away. I am planning to call my dr tommorrow.

TIA!! :)

Re: clogged duct..possible breast infection

  • I would get to bed as early as possible tonight. From my experience, rest had such an impact in breast infections and clogs. If you still feel it tomorrow, I would call your dr. Mine gave me an antibiotic over the phone once for this. Also, a hot shower works wonders. Run the water as hot as you can stand it and let it run on the clogged area. Then massage and even express some milk if you can.

  • I have been battling one for over a week.... I went to a lactation consultant and she gave me some massaging techniques. Trying using the tips of your fingers to "dance" or massage that area. Also, make sure you are feeding often and using warm compresses right before you feed. I also use a cold pack in between feedings to help with swelling. It has been a battle but things are getting better and i am trying to get  a LOT more sleep :0)

    Luck!
