do I just ignore these contractions? Very frustrated.

Posted in 3rd tri too

I'm feeling very frustrated. The other night I went to the hospital for mild menstrual like pains and when they put me on the machine I was having contractions every min and a half for an hour. They had to give me meds to stop them. I've been having them on and off since.I have them at least 10 times every hour, it's ridiculous. I sat down and timed them and they are an average of 4 min for about 45 seconds each. When I was in the hospital my cervix was closed. My doctor told me to only come in if the contractions are very painful or if my water breaks. So do I just ignore these contractions? I live an and a half away from the hospital so that makes me even more worried. I'm a FTM and have no idea what to expect and I cannot go by the contractions every 5 min, 1 min long and for an hour because apparently that means nothing for me. I'm so frustrated and feel like I'm going insane.

  • I am in the exact same boat and magically we have the same due date!  I haven't gone in because i don't just want to be sent home.  Last week I had the same thing and the dr said if it continues go and get checked.  I got it to calm down.  I called today and the guy on the phone, because it's a holiday said, "If you really feel like this is an emergency I can page him but...."  Basically, "you better be sure!"  Now I'm sitting here confused! Sorry I have no answer, but at least you have someone who gets it!

  • If the contractions are not getting stronger, I wouldn't worry too much yet. It sounds like BH contractions (they are usually less than 1 min long).

Try to rest and get well hydrated!

  • I have also been having the same thing and they get picked up on my NST 2 times a week, My doc said that if they get to the point that I can no longer speak through them for at least an hour, than it is time to go in. They are real at that point but otherwise it is just a signpost that your body is preparing itself for that day! Don't worry most women labor for an average of 12 hours so you'll make it in time.
