    Hey Ladies,

My husband and I both really like the name Cora.  However he wants to spell it Korra.  I have seen it spelled that way, but more commonly with a C.  Would you say that Korra is spelled incorrectly?  Also, what do you think of the name in general?

    Thanks!

i don't think a name that YOU choose can be spelled "incorrectly" if you intended it to be spelled that way.

I actually like Korra. Cora makes me think of Coral, and that's just plain silly to me.

Yes, actually, a name can in fact be spelled incorrectly, even if you intend to spell it that way. "Korra" is not a legitimate spelling for Cora. It's made up.

Right, it's made up. Therefore how can it be labeled "incorrect"?

Cora is not a made-up name. Korra is a made-up spelling of a real name.

  • Cora Joy is beautiful! I like the tie with her sister's MN of Hope and think that's very sweet and I am sorry for your loss.

Thank you- that is sort of why I like the middle name Joy.  If we are able to take this baby home with us we will certainly be joyful!  Kimberly was born at 20 weeks 2 days due to incompetent cervix. We obviously don't know if this baby is a girl yet, but I sort of have a feeling that it is.  If so, this is our number one name right now.  I liked many of the other middle name suggestions that were given too- thank you ladies!

Also, I agree with many of you that spelling DOES matter- hence the reason for my question! :-)  I'll tell my husband we really need to spell it Cora! :-)

    Exactly.

  • The only time I've seen the spelling Korra is on "Legend of Korra" which is the sequal to The Last Airbender series on Nick... IMO Cora is a prettier spelling than Korra, but maybe Kora with 1 "R"?

Korra is NOT spelled incorrectly. Correct is what YOU want it to be! I went to college with a girl named Kora and she was beautiful and smart!!! I LOVE KORRA! What's another "r"?

To this poster (not the OP), little Korra will have to correct people her entire life on how to spell Korra, not Cora or even Kora. I have a friend named Sarrah because her parents thought it would be unique...she HATES her name and is changing it when she gets married in a few months to Sarah. That's what an extra "r" is.

Not everyone who has a unique spelling for their name hates it. You just obviously hang with negative people! My husband has a very non traditional spelling of his name and he loves it! It distinguishes him. He played baseball professionally and scouts always remembered him because his name wasn't spelled the  traditional way! WHO CARES IF SOMEONE WANTS TO SPELL THEIR CHILD'S NAME WITH AN EXTRA "R"?!! ARE YOU THE FREAKING NAME POLICE? CHILL THE HECK OUT DUDE! I think that's awesome!

I don't recall being mad, just making a point (public board!) that someone I know (not everyone) doesn't like her unique spelling. I think you are the one who needs to chill Ms. CAPITAL LETTERS!

You just aren't getting it, just as you are giving your point, everyone else can give theirs. You are not always right, I'm not always right, the OP can name her baby whatever she would like. But if she asks she should and I believe she has graciously accepted feedback both positive and negative. If you are looking for rainbows and puppies go to babygaga...I hear its wonderfully quiet over there. Big Smile

Sorry OP that your post got completely hijacked...but I guess it provided some entertainment this afternoon. GL deciding on a name for your LO!

  • I like Kora but the double R is goofy to me. I don't like C's so I would chose Kora or Korra over Cora any day!

And spelled incorrectly?! It's a name and it isn't some crazy spelling like Quaura or Kore-ah. You spell it how you and your husband like it!
